From the birth of photography technology more than two hundred years ago, to the current hundred schools of photography art, the power of images has taken us on new journeys again and again, observing and understanding the world that we have not reached with the naked eye.
To better support the creators of these images, Photovogue was born in 2011. To date, more than 290,000 photographers from 210 countries around the world have joined the platform, who have lived in the pure white world covered by ice and snow for a long time, or feel the heat of the equator, or may witness the passage of time in places with distinct seasons; some of them are concerned about environmental changes, some are committed to promoting multiculturalism, some are fascinated by the beauty of nature, some are loudly called for equality, and the completely different cultural backgrounds pour out a thousand different visual languages, and they intertwine an intriguing picture together.
11 years later, in the face of a talented young photographer, in the face of China's booming creative field, in the face of the Chinese voice that is increasingly heard by the world, we feel that it is time to start a new journey - taking the first issue of PhotoVOGUE as a starting point, continuing to support excellent photographers at home and abroad, providing a platform to display their talents, and making their works appear on a broader stage.
In this issue, you'll see a new fashion blockbuster by photographer Liu Xiangyu. This set of works continues his usual style – mixing fashion with perverse feelings, taking inspiration from haute couture, and bravely placing the subject in an unusual scene for a humorous effect.
Helen Ma, who shot the cover of the September 2021 issue of Vogue of Clothing and Beauty, told us that after ten years away from home, she has been to countless corners of the world and seen many landscapes that are completely different from her hometown, but wherever she goes, the shadow of her hometown Xinjiang always flashes in front of her eyes from time to time, and Ma Helen wants to show the world her young and vibrant hometown through her works.
Bilari, also from Xinjiang, is keen to document the street culture of young Chinese people with his lens, and he believes that the most important thing for photographers is to "keep creating, keep learning, and insist on doing what they feel is right." And he also hopes that the world can give every creator a little more tolerance.
Zhang Jiacheng, who has worked with us many times, has provided many early works that have not been published this time. He believes that creation is the feeling of meeting the inspiration of the first encounter, and then constantly perfecting the ideas in the mind. He sees photography as a way of seeing the world, as a medium through which ideas are conveyed through images.
Another photographer, Feng Li, said: "My curiosity about everything around me is greater than my interest in photography, which is just a record of the special pictures in my eyes." Through photography, he better understands and accepts the world in which he lives.
Photographer Luo Yang has spent more than a decade shooting a girl series, recording the true face of Chinese women, and the straightforward expression contains the power of simplicity and sincerity. From her, we see that photography is not only a creative expression, but also a way to define the culture of each era, recognize the diversity of the world, confront potential problems and bring about change.
The photographer Yito, who has contributed many groups of wonderful fashion blockbusters to us, shared a number of works from the early days of his career. Yito's works have a strong narrative attribute, he hopes that his creations are full of vitality, flowing rather than static, and through the moments condensed by the lens, inspire the viewer's imagination of the story behind it.
In this issue, we also feature rare images from the early days of his career that Sun Ruixiang, a former chanel's official record photographer, recorded in Paris for supermodel Liu Wen. In his opinion, "Liu Wen's body is always full of a positive energy, she has a rhythm of never stopping to work hard in pursuit of perfection, exuding beauty from the inside out." Looking back at these photos more than a decade later, Sun Ruixiang remembers the time when he first started fashion photography and desperately explored in order to capture the ideal picture.
The name Raven May be a little unfamiliar, but the young photographer's work has been exhibited in galleries in London, New York, Paris, Tokyo and elsewhere. She is fascinated by the creative process, which she sees as both an outlet for desire and a daily catharsis. In the future, she wants to try more ways of expressing herself and explore something deeper in herself.
Behind Wang Wei's recognizable works is the insistence on pluralism. "We should find our place in the world, not follow others, whether in the real world or in the art world," he said. Everyone's world is a different shape, and we should create our own world at our own pace. ”
The works that Ren Haihua shared with us are taken all over the world - Los Angeles, San Francisco, Hawaii, Kamakura, Shanghai... He likes to create on the road, go to non-scenic spots, take a bus to the terminal station, get off the bus and shoot while walking along the way, completely following his own state of mind. Photography is also a process of dialogue with his heart for him.
