The first acquaintance with Zhuangziyu originated from a variety show "Beautiful House" in 2017, when he, as one of the guests of the program, successfully transformed an ordinary house that blended Huizhou and yanjiang styles into a "Tongling Mountain Residence" with both modern sense and oriental charm in less than two months, realizing Zhuangziyu's first attempt to show "Chinese form and Chinese narrative" architecture.
The reconstructed Tongling Mountain Residence becomes a two-storey glass mountain residence separated by a central courtyard, covered with green tiles, quiet and quiet, and integrated with the existing traditional village and nature.
Starting from the scattered narrative system of Chinese painting, Zhuangziyu takes into account the function and cultural tradition, and realizes multi-dimensional juxtaposition of narrative presentation in a flatter visual system. Not surprisingly, a year later, the project won major awards such as the BRITISH WAN Award for Best House of the Year, the German ICONIC AWARD for Supremacy in the Residential Category and the Italian A' Gold Award.
Located on the central axis of Beijing, The No. 7 Gulou Courtyard is also a typical example of his interpretation of the Chinese narrative. In designing this old courtyard, Zhuangziyu retained traditional elements while reinterpreting the roof, which is usually overlooked for lack of spatial value, and reinterpreting it to a new brilliance – here you can find the excitement of unveiling the tiles in the upper room of childhood, as well as a new perspective of the North Bell Tower and the South Lookout Drum Tower.
