1. Causes
From the origin of historical development, since the collapse of the Soviet Union, the historical entanglement between Russia and Ukraine has led to the search for separation of the pro-Russian Donbass region within Ukraine, and Ukraine has become the forefront of Russia's confrontation with the West. Obviously, this change in Ukraine directly led to the level of sharp antagonism in Russian-Ukrainian relations!
Until April 2014, in several regions of southeastern Ukraine, local Russians and Ukrainian pro-Russian forces, instigated by the Russian government, staged demonstrations and protests against the coup d'état of pro-American forces in Ukraine to overthrow the Yanukovych regime. Pro-American forces and ultra-rightists in Ukraine suppressed demonstrators, especially in the southwestern region of Odessa, creating bloodshed that killed more than 50 ethnic Russian demonstrators.
2. Pass
There were anti-government riots in Kiev on January 19, 2014, but they were far less massive and intense than this one. After Ukrainian anti-government protesters evacuated their occupied Kiev city hall buildings and several state government office buildings on February 16, the Prosecutor's Office of ukraine announced that the amnesty law passed by the parliament on January 29, 2014, would take effect on March 17, 2014.
Prior to the signing of the Minsk Agreement from March 2014 to February 2015, the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Armed Forces of the Eastern Ukraine continued to fight in the Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts of southeastern Ukraine, and the Ukrainian armed forces suffered heavy losses and retreated in the early battles, and the Armed Forces of the Eastern Ukraine Region now control most of donetsk and Luhansk Oblast.
On June 6, 2015, after a brief period of calm, fierce clashes broke out in eastern Ukraine, and the Minsk ceasefire agreement was broken.
3. Status quo
Ukraine's growing domestic political crisis once again reflects the dilemma of post-Soviet national identity, namely whether to choose a European or Eurasian identity. The historical identity antagonism between the western Ukraine region, which was deeply influenced by Catholic civilization and Europe, and the eastern region, which was the dominant traditional Russian influence as a "Little Russia", has not yet been resolved.
Emperor Pu's idea was actually very simple: Don't fight, you put the missile on my doorstep, I am certainly uncomfortable; fight, you sanction me, I am not comfortable. So, it's just an uncomfortable situation, I choose a way that everyone is uncomfortable with, and I can't make me uncomfortable alone.
Russia has no choice but to fight back. If Ukraine succeeds in joining NATO, the Russians will not want to sleep for the next day. Putin does not want to repeat the mistakes of the Soviet Union's blitzkrieg. Then Russia's losses are too great. What do you think about that?
