Despite losing the title in two recent matches against Tyson Fury, former boxing champion Wilder has maintained first place in WBC for 24 consecutive months in the latest ranking released by the World Boxing Council in February.
Wilder was pulled off the altar by Fury, especially after the three battles with Fury, and it was speculated that the Bronze Bomber would be demoted by the WBC. But this is not the case. Since then, Wild has been firmly at the top of the table, meaning February 2022 is his 24th month at number one.
Wilder is said to be ready to return to the ring in 2022, with the exception of Wilder Briton Joe Joyce and Joseph Parker in second and third. Cuban contender Frank Sanchez finished fourth and Ruiz Jr. came in fifth.
Current champion Tyson Fury will be fighting with forced challenger White this spring, and the temporary boxing title will be vacant once the tournament starts. Some have even speculated that Fury and Wilder might play again, but boxing fans have lost interest.
Wilder is one of the longest-running boxers to dominate the title, ranking 7th in history (on par with Jeffries) with seven consecutive successful defending titles, and the most consecutive defending boxer in the United States in its class after Tyson!
