Bloomberg's Mark Gurman talks a lot about the new Mac, the new chip, and when to launch these products in the latest issue of the Power On newsletter. He mentioned that it doesn't look like Apple is working on a lower-end, bigger iMac. He believes that Apple is developing the rumored iMac Pro — it will take advantage of the display size as another "Pro" distinction from the low-end model, which means the company does not plan to launch an entry-level iMac. According to industry insiders, Qualcomm is planning to add native AV1 decoding capabilities to its "upcoming flagship Snapdragon mobile processor". The chip's internal codename is SM8550, which is in line with the models of other Snapdragon 8-series chipsets, which are expected to be released as early as the end of the year. AV1 videos can already be played on some Android devices through software decoding, but hardware-accelerated decoding can significantly improve battery life and playback performance.
