Packers start playing the emotional card! Signed Rogers' favorite quarterback coach

Tom Clements is coming back to the Green Bay Packers as quarterback coach. Aaron Rodgers has always been grateful to Clements for playing a key role in his early NFL career. According to people familiar with the matter, Clements has verbally agreed to the job, and the two sides may officially sign the contract today.

Although Rodgers and Clements have a good relationship, there are also sources that Clements' arrival does not guarantee a change of heart for the regular season MVP, but it is certainly a way for the packers to hope to keep Rogers. Clements worked for the Packers from 2006-2016, most recently as a quarterback coach for the Arizona Cardinals, retiring after the 2020 season. From the time he left the Packers until he joined the Cardinals in 2019, Clements didn't teach, nor did he last season.

The 68-year-old coach was one of Rogers' mentors in his career, coming to Green Bay in his second season with Rogers with the Packers, when he was hired by Mike McCarthy. Clements served as quarterback coach from 2006 to 2011, helping Rogers play the 2010 Super Bowl season and his first MVP season in 2011. In 2012, Clements was promoted to attack group coordinator, and when McCarthy decided to abandon the tactical call in the game for the 2015 season, he gave clements power and appointed him deputy head coach. Later that season, McCarthy began calling tactics again, and Clements stayed on for another season.

Despite being separated from Clements for more than five years, Rodgers often mentions him when talking about the quarterback coach. The most recent was last month, when the Packers played the final game of the playoffs against the San Francisco 49ers. "I'm very grateful, very grateful to people like Joe Philbin, Tom Clements and Alex Van Perl who helped me build leadership and helped me become a good quarterback."

There was also the regular season week 17 game against the Vikings, where Rodgers gave De fant Adams a beautiful pass, and he also mentioned Clements. "I learned from Tom Clements that as a quarterback, you have three behaviors that are unforgivable. 1, do not throw the ball to the middle of the road when the shot is already late; 2, do not blindly pass the ball; 3, do not blindly play the pre-set plan. ”

Clements will replace Luke Gacy, who was hired last month as chicago bears offensive coordinator, as the second Rogers-related coach to be hired this offseason. Last week, the Packers hired One of Rogers' former teammates from college, Byron Storrell, as assistant coach for the team's Special Agent.

It is reported that Rogers has not yet told the team on February 18 that his direction for next season is to return to Green Bay? Or request a deal or retirement.
