Yu Jiancheng: The "holistic principle" of Chinese medicine is the idea of excellence and advancement

author:Tateki Imatsha

The "holistic concept" is one of the basic characteristics of Chinese medicine, and everyone is familiar with it. However, Western medicine actually has a holistic view. The difference is that Western medicine sees the organism as a whole, while Chinese medicine sees the heavens and the earth and all things as a whole.

Teacher Yu Jiancheng believes that this is the "integral principle" in the philosophy of systems, the idea of excellence and advancement of Chinese medicine, and embodies the spirit of modern, especially postmodern science. If we do not cherish it now and have no ambition to be a leader, we can only do it in the future, and what we lose is national honor and intellectual property rights! It's worth thinking about!

The "Holistic Principle" of TCM

Where is the cleverness?

The overall concept is debatable

The so-called concept is a thought that is always held. For example, the concept of sterility is to always think about sterility during surgery. As for how to achieve the purpose of sterility, there is a whole set of processes, this process is called aseptic technology.

The concept of the whole is to always think about the whole. This kind of thinking all the time, there is no difference between Chinese and Western medicine. If there is no difference, what is the characteristic? The difference lies in the different connotations of the overall connotation of Chinese and Western medicine, Western medicine is to see the organism as a whole, Chinese medicine is to see the heaven and earth figures as a whole, and this holistic view penetrates into all aspects of Chinese medicine, that is, the principle of integrity, which can be called characteristics.

The basic semantics of holism, holism, holistic view, integral principle and holistic concept are different.

Theories, doctrines, or theories; sex, the function of things; views, basic views of things; principles, principles, laws for acting including the construction of theories; ideas, a thought that is always held, always thinking about an idea.

Looking at the elaboration of the concept of the whole in modern Chinese medicine, it includes the above various semantics about the whole, and the semantics of different concepts are unclear, and the concepts are secretly changed back and forth. These should be problems that have been solved in primary school Chinese classes, and it is not laughable that they appear in the TCM textbooks of higher education in the 21st century?

At the end of the relevant discussion, we must add a sentence, "Compared with the overall concept and the modern medical model, Chinese medicine has long outlined the entire framework of the modern medical model, that is, the "biological-psychological-social" medical model, from a macroscopic point of view, and added a new content to this modern medical model - the corresponding view of heaven and man." ”

Patterns, the standard style of things. Often think, can it be compared with the standard style? What is this comparison trying to illustrate? Want to say that modern medicine (Western medicine, the same below) has developed one step further into Chinese medicine? Has TCM already achieved a biomedical model? Where is the psychology of TCM? Biomedicine has anatomy, biochemistry, biophysics, cells, genes, etc., how does Chinese medicine accomplish it? Isn't this self-righteous, self-deception?

Many experts pointed out that the lack of real Chinese medicine in modern times is a problem with Chinese medicine education, and the root cause of the problem is that there are too few lessons in Chinese medicine. Such a teaching material, all the lesson hours are used to learn it, you can cultivate real Chinese medicine?

Looking at the elaboration of the "holistic concept" of modern Chinese medicine, speculating on its intention seems to be intended to express that Chinese medicine is different from the characteristics of modern medicine and is the "integral principle" in systematic philosophy, because it can "embody the modern, especially postmodern scientific spirit".

Systems philosophy was created by biologist BetaRanfi as one of the main figures and is widely used in biology, physics, technical engineering, society, economics and other fields. Systems philosophy holds that there are no things in the world that exist in isolation, and that every thing interacts with other things. Everything is either a system or a component of a system.

These views, for Chinese medicine that predates the systematic philosophy more than two thousand years, can be summarized in four words - the unity of heaven and man, the unity of heaven and earth and all things.

The principle of integrity is to take the wholeness as the law and always run through all aspects of Chinese medicine.

First, the concept of life and disease. The Yellow Emperor's Inner Classics believe that the innate endowment, the qi of heaven and earth, and the spirit of the heart are the foundation of life, and they are also the root causes of diseases that make people unable to successfully perform their days and years. "Lingshu Shunqi is divided into four hours a day": "Those who are born in the place of hundreds of diseases will arise from dry, warm, cold, summer, wind, rain, yin, yang, mood, and anger, eating and living, and the qi is combined and tangible, and he is hidden and famous." "Lingshu : The Beginning of a Hundred Diseases": "Wind and rain, cold and heat must not be vain, and evil cannot hurt people alone." Those who are not sick in the face of storms and rains are covered without falsehood, so evil cannot hurt people alone. This will be because of the wind of falsehood and evil, and its body shape, the two illusions are obtained, but the form of the guest. "Qihe" can become "disease and evil", and it is only when the Tibetan government becomes the "cause" that it causes disease. The innate endowment, the qi of heaven and earth, and the spirit of the mind are one whole.

Second, research methods. "Yi Chuan Zhi Ci": "The ancient King of the Bao Clan, Tianxia Ye, looked up at the heavens, looked down at the Law on the earth, watched the birds and beasts of the text and the earth, took the body near, took the things from afar, so he began to make gossip, with the virtue of the gods, with the love of all things." "Chinese medicine does not use gossip, but five luck and six qi. This is the most primitive scientific research activity, and it is still the most scientific research method, observation, recording, summarizing, modeling, prediction, which sub-science can abandon such a scientific method today? It's just that modern observation methods and modeling methods are more advanced, and the research objects are more in-depth. However, judging from the large-scale observation data of climate, phenology and epidemics recorded in the Yellow Emperor's Inner Classic, this kind of scientific research activity with a long time, a wide range and a large scale is also beyond the reach of modern science that conducts fragmented research.

Third, theoretical modeling. "Su Qing And The Theory of Sick Energy" "Those who have gone to the scriptures, the words and qi are also heavenly." The next menstrual person, the change of the disease also. "The upper meridian is the five luck and six qi, and the lower meridian is the clinical medical theory constructed according to it." The Yellow Emperor's Inner Classic is based on the theory of disease change constructed by the Five Fortunes and Six Qi, and its basic framework is that the Five Fortunes and Six Qi are like scaffolding, and the four parts and five theories are the framework structure. From the perspective of the essence of life and death, the theory of organs from the mechanical connection, the theory of form from the holographic connection, the Tibetan theory of time, the meridian theory from the spatial connection, and the gasification theory from the perspective of the transformation of medicinal food qi and essence qi and divine form, the theory of life and disease are all-round linked to heaven and earth and all things.

Fourth, use all things. Since all things are universally connected and interact, it is quite scientific to find and use their laws. For example, diseases with "cold" nature can be treated with heat, including summer qi, the so-called winter disease summer treatment. Traditional Chinese medicine and prescription science are the best embodiment of the "integral principle", which not only uses the form of natural medicines, but also makes use of the interlinkages and interactions between various drugs, which is the flexible application of dialectics. "See the disease of the liver, know the liver to the spleen, and when the spleen is realized first... For the disease of the liver, replenish the acid, help with the scorched bitterness, and use the sweet medicine to adjust it. Acid into the liver, anxiety into the heart, sweet into the spleen. ”

The cleverness of the "holistic principle" of TCM

There are many clever points in the "holistic principle" of Chinese medicine, and the author thinks that the following points are more important.

First, the unity of mind and body. Although the modern medical model is a bio-psycho-social medical model, it is not theoretically unified and clinically does not combine it. Tumor surgery cannot cut off depression, and chemotherapy does not consider sadness. In Chinese medicine, the qi of heaven and earth, innate endowments and mental intentions are unified, and a prescription can be solved.

Second, heaven and man are one. Although the systematic biology, information biology, systems medicine, systems medicine, and especially the study of the laws of epidemics and susceptible populations in modern medicine are still in the ascendant, there is still a long way to go compared with the clinical medical theory of Chinese medicine that incorporates the elements of heaven and earth and mathematical models. However, with the transition of the times, the clinical medicine of Western medicine will do this sooner or later, just look at the attitude towards big data.

Third, compound preparations. A doctor also uses two or three hundred herbs in his lifetime, different combinations, to cope with hundreds of diseases. This realm of modern medicine is still difficult to understand, and if you want to understand it, you must first understand the theory of Chinese medicine. Judging from the incident in which the Japanese people preemptively registered 210 prescriptions in the "Treatise on Typhoid Fever and Miscellaneous Diseases" in the West, the West does not sneer at this, and it is possible to study it.

Fourth, in the face of new diseases. Unlike modern medicine, which numbs its claws when it sees a new disease and waits for vaccines and new drugs to be invented, mathematically modeled Chinese medicine, dialectical treatment, can often achieve satisfactory efficacy.

Fifth, the third state. Also known as sub-health. 70% of patients' pain and discomfort, modern medicine not only can not find the cause nor can not find the physical and chemical indicators to support, there is no way to start, most of them think that it is a psychological disease. And Chinese medicine is more than enough, the name is known as the treatment of diseases, Western medicine to study to find physical and chemical indicators is not a difficult task, genes are a direction, and there have been signs.

Although systematic philosophy was born in the field of biology and is the basic part of Western medicine, modern clinical medicine has not yet been applied, and even if it is applied, it may not be able to reach the realm of Chinese medicine for a long time, so it is not accurate to say that the "integral principle" is the characteristic of Chinese medicine.

Since, for the "principle of integrity", the difference between Traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine is whether it is in basic medicine or clinical medicine, then what can be called a characteristic is still a clinical medical theory of Traditional Chinese medicine.

All of the above, modern Chinese medicine textbooks do not reflect it, at least not systematically.

The reason is that the research method of five luck and six qi and the reference with the figures of heaven and earth has been abandoned, and the unity of heaven and man has become the source of no water and the pavilion in the air. There is also the forcible docking of the concept of the same name that is inexpensive in Chinese and Western medicine, and the complete philosophization of certain medical concepts.

So that modern Chinese medicine, clinical experience, theory at random compilation, the name of philosophical speculation. The healer's intention also depends on enlightenment. Like folk juggling, Chinese medicine stands in the forest of science in the form of culture and craftsmanship.

The inch is long and the foot is short, and the stone of the mountain can attack jade. In the information age, any spark of ideas that flashes may be accepted and exploited. Chinese medicine has a lot of excellent and advanced ideas, they do not cherish, others may cherish. There is no ambition to be a leader now, and the future will inevitably only be a follower. Whoever brings medical progress is a boon to mankind, but at least one national honor and intellectual property rights are at stake.
