It is reported that during the first-instance trial of the case, Niu Chengze denied the facts of the crime, arguing that the two sides were in agreement. However, he still compensated the victim with NT$2 million and did not obtain the victim's forgiveness. In the end, the court found him guilty and sentenced him to four years in prison. After the appeal of the case, Niu Chengze still insisted that he was not guilty during the second trial and summoned new witnesses to testify in court.

In December last year, the second instance judgment of the case ruled that the woman could not be accused of sexual assault on the grounds that the woman had "not acted in panic afterwards" and upheld the original judgment of the first instance.

On September 29, Taiwan's Supreme Court found that the original judgment was correct and dismissed the appeal.
