The Supreme Court Rejected the Appeal Niu Chengze confirmed a 4-year prison sentence

Taiwanese director Niu Chengze was convicted of sexual assault by female crew members in 2018 and sentenced to four years in prison in April this year, after which Niu Chengze appealed to the local supreme court, but today (No. 29) the Supreme Court rejected his appeal, and Niu Chengze was determined to be imprisoned for 4 years.

Niu Chengze in the court of first instance, not only denied committing the crime, but also argued that he and the woman were in agreement, although he compensated the other party NT$2 million (about 470,000 yuan) to reach a mediation, but quoted the content of the settlement letter to imply that the woman took the initiative to dedicate herself, and the victim also said that Niu Chengze was willing to compensate for a light sentence, rather than sincere repentance, the court held that Niu Chengze had no remorse after committing the crime, and sentenced him to 4 years in prison according to compulsory surrender. Later, when Niu Chengze appealed to the High Court, he still denied the charges and even summoned new witnesses to testify, but the confessions of the new witnesses were useless, and the High Court upheld the first instance judgment.

Unsatisfied with the ruling, Niu Chengze appealed to the Supreme Court, but the Supreme Court found that the original judgment did not violate the law and the sentence was reasonable, so today it rejected his appeal, and Niu Chengze upheld the sentence of 4 years in prison.
