Director Niu Chengze was recently suspected of sexually assaulting female employees of the crew, and although he has reached a settlement with the female assistant for 2 million, he alludes to the fact that the other party is actively dedicated, and is considered to have no remorse after committing the crime, so he was sentenced to 4 years in prison according to law.

In November 2018, Niu Chengze was sued by prosecutors for inviting friends and the crew of the movie "Running Horse" to their homes to party, accusing a drunken female staff member who finally stayed in his home. At that time, he stressed that the two sides were "cognitively" different, but the prosecution refuted such a statement, believing that the murdered woman and Niu Chengze had no other interaction in private except for work, let alone the affection between men and women, and found that Niu Chengze committed a crime and was clearly prosecuted.

At the second-instance trial, the Supreme People's Court pointed out in its reasons for the judgment of Niu Chengze that "the two people in question had male and female feelings, and used their status as directors to make remarks to the media to shape the existence of male and female feelings between them and the victim, and although the defendant established a reconciliation with the victim to compensate for the victim's damage, it quoted the record of the settlement letter, on the grounds that the victim did not convey the intention of refusal in the process, alluding to the victim's active dedication, etc., which shows that the defendant lacks a sense of gender equality and has no remorse."
