The leader of this spirited "vanguard regiment" was instinctively startled and broke out in a cold sweat. But after all, it was a long battle on the battlefield, and he quickly calmed down again.

Due to the lack of artillery support, Colonel Hu Guangnan's troops were hit hard by our army in the interspersed battle, and there was very little left, so they had to sneak back to Beigong Mountain like rabbits and find a cave to hide. After a short respite, Hu Guangnan contacted Ruan Shaoxiong, commander of the 316A Division, through the radio, and asked the main force to come to support quickly. Seeing this situation, Hu Guangnan first angrily complained that the signal soldier dropped the chain at a critical moment, and then suspected that his superior had an accident, and he was even more afraid.
After the war, the history of the Sino-Vietnamese War shows that the 148th Regiment of the 316ATh division encountered two regiments of the 116th and 117th regiments of the 39th Division of the 13th Army in the Dai Nai area on the way to the north to aid Citrus Pond. Although the 148th Regiment of the 316ATh Division carried out the order resolutely, the regimental offensive was organized in an orderly manner, the infantry and artillery coordination was skillful, and the fighting was quite orderly, after all, with the strength of one regiment, attacking the positions guarded by the two regiments of our army, which had the geographical advantage, was like a grasshopper shaking a tree.
The 148th Regiment of the Vietnamese Army launched more than 30 attacks in Dai Nai for several consecutive days and nights, losing more than 900 troops and basically losing the ability to attack. As soon as Citrus Pond was lost, the attack of the 148th Regiment was blocked, and the sensitive commander of the 316A Division, Nguyen Shao Xiong, immediately realized that the danger had come, and immediately ordered the 148th Regiment to stop the attack and turn to self-defensive defense. He himself marched north to reinforce the 148th Regiment to relieve its upside-down danger. Of course, he knew that his "vanguard group" was in the Area of Beigong Mountain, and it was likely that there was no going back. If the 148 regiment is lost again, he will not be able to make a difference, so he will fight for his life and save the 148 regiment.
After arriving in Dai Nai, Nguyen Thi hung personally organized and commanded the infantry and artillery coordination and group attack, all of which were defeated by our heroic and good-fighting 39th Division. At this time, Yan Shouqing, commander of the 13th Army, ordered Commander Kang Huzhen to lead the 149th Division and the heavy artillery group during the attack on Citrus Pond, all of which were thrown into the battle to encircle and annihilate the 316A Division of the Vietnamese Army, forming a fierce tiger and rabbit, and killing chickens with cattle knives. Ruan Shaoxiong's troops were interspersed and divided by the People's Liberation Army, which was several times larger than himself, and surrounded and blocked.
However, due to the mistransmission of information from our army (mistaking Bridge 3 as Bridge 4), the 2nd Battalion of the 446th Regiment of our 149th Division was ambushed by the 316A Division of the Vietnamese Army at The No. 4 Bridge, which caused losses to the 2nd Regiment of the 446th Regiment of the 149th Division. Even so, the 149th Division still fought with a fierce tiger and finally defeated the Vietnamese 316A Division. Even Nguyen Thiu Hung himself was almost crushed to pieces by the powerful artillery fire of our army, and had to order his troops to quickly withdraw to Sabah and stick to their old nest in order to protect themselves.

Colonel Hu Quang Nam of the "Vanguard Regiment" of the 316A Division called for help from Commander Nguyen Shao Xiong at Beigong Mountain, when Commander Nguyen Shao Hung was attacked on three sides, collapsed, and it was difficult to protect himself, so there was a situation of "thousands of calls and no reply". Colonel Hu Guangnan, who was hiding in the cave of Beigong Mountain, was already in a situation where there was little food and no way to call for help, so he had no choice but to take advantage of the darkness of the night and take dozens of people, including Fan Decai, the commander of the vanguard battalion, to sneak into the village of Bolai under the Beigong Mountain to find food and shelter, in order to survive and wait for the main force to reinforce.
At this time, the headquarters of the 114th Regiment received a report from the superior: Wu Li, commander of the Second Military Region of the Vietnamese Army, ordered Mei Ronglan, who had failed in command and escaped by chance in the Battle of Citrus Pond, to make up for his mistakes, and was responsible for organizing and directing the local remnants and local armed forces to carry out reconnaissance and harassment of the Chinese troops occupying the phosphate mines in Citrus Pond to prevent the Chinese troops from continuing to move south. At present, Mei Ronglan has led some Vietnamese troops to infiltrate the area around the phosphate mine. Therefore, the army and division demanded that the 114th Regiment, in addition to holding all positions in the phosphate mine area, also organize forces to carry out a comprehensive clearance and suppression of the periphery of the defense area in order to eradicate the troubles in the future.

In accordance with this circular and request from his superiors, Commander Fan Xiangnan immediately convened a combat meeting attended by the chief military and political officers of each battalion and the responsible persons of the organs and units. At the meeting, Liang Xianwen, deputy regimental commander and chief of staff, gave a briefing on the enemy's situation. Commander Fan Liannan divided the areas for the battalions and issued combat tasks. Political Commissar Li Shizhan made arrangements for ideological mobilization, combat discipline, and precautions for liquidation and suppression. After receiving the mission, the commanders of the battalions returned to the unit in the night of the stars and immediately carried out the combat tasks.

The battalions of the 114th Regiment, in accordance with the orders of the regimental commanders, while consolidating their defensive positions, quickly organized their men and horses into their respective demarcated areas, and carried out an intensive search to clear and suppress the remaining and infiltrated Vietnamese troops. For a time, the mountains around the phosphate mine were full of Chinese soldiers searching for mountains, and the fierce gunfire was one after another, day and night. Strands of remnants and infiltrated Vietnamese troops were still dreaming of recovering the orange pond in the dark corners, and they were uprooted and eradicated by our army one after another.
Colonel Hu Quang Nam, the commander of the Vietnamese "Vanguard Regiment" hiding in the village of Bolai, learned that Mei Ronglan had led a group of defeated soldiers and had entered the citrus pond area, thinking that he had been saved. However, hearing the fierce gunfire in all directions, day and night, and almost completely destroying his "vanguard regiment", he had a premonition that new dangers were quietly approaching.
Hu Guangnan thought that the village of Bolai was already very unsafe, and he ordered the commander of the pioneer battalion, Fan Decai, to take people to the nearby mountains to find a safer hiding place. Van DerCai took two minions with him, and in a panic, he reached out of the village and found that the river flowed from east to west. The mountains on both sides of the river are deep and densely forested. On the other side of the river, in the thick forest and grass, a hole is faintly visible. So Van Tak took two Vietnamese troops to tiptoe into the cave entrance, and the more the hole went in, the larger the space inside, enough to hide hundreds of people, and there was a water source. So he ran back to the village and reported the situation to Hu Guangnan.
