It is understood that the Haipai crystal carving technology has grown up with Shanghai jade carving. At the beginning of the last century, jade carving artists who gathered in Shanghai from Yangzhou, Suzhou and other places initially engaged in the design and production of jade carving in the Old Chengxiang area (around the present-day Shanghai City God Temple). Haipai crystal carving technology is represented by Wei Zhengrong, an old artist of Shanghai Jade Carving Factory, and others, and shen desheng has been passed down several times.

Shen Desheng told reporters that the more than 40 crystal carvings on display are all designed and produced by him over the years, covering themes such as fish, insects, flowers, birds and animals, and character statues. He said that in the Classic of Mountains and Seas, it is recorded that "the Danshan Mountains are out of the fire, and the southeast flow is injected into the Luoshui River, of which there are many water jades", of which "water jade" refers to crystals. "Although the ancestors of the ancient times had an understanding of crystal, due to various reasons such as strong materials and primitive tools, crystal carving was not fully understood by the public." He hopes to let the audience feel the spirit and beauty of "water jade" up close by displaying carefully created crystal carvings.
It is reported that Shen Desheng has specialized in crystal carving skills since 1989. While inheriting the skills of his predecessors in Haipai crystal carving, he also strives to constantly explore and explore in technological innovation and forge ahead. He proposed the concept of "ten degrees of space" for viewing crystals: "A three-dimensional crystal is a three-dimensional space; the three-dimensional inclusion contained in the inner layer is also a three-dimensional space; the image of the change of the inner and outer bodies under the reflection of light is still a three-dimensional space; and the last degree is the induction of the human mind to the crystal." ”
The Shanghai Arts and Crafts Industry Association said that Shen Desheng has made important contributions to the development of Haipai crystal carving, whether in terms of craft skills, theme creativity, spiritual connotation, or craft theory. (End)
