Ellie Paton, 17, brandon Stibbles, a worker and 21, are lovers living in Newmillens, Ayrshire, England, and have been together for a year and a half.
In 2021, Ellie went through a tortuous pregnancy process, with scans at 22 weeks of pregnancy showing that the fetus was only developing at 16 weeks. Ellie was diagnosed with preeclampsia, a type of pregnancy-induced hypertension that, if left untreated, can lead to premature birth or the inability of the fetus to give birth properly within the womb.
At the end of December, Ellie was hospitalized for two days because of high blood pressure, and after being discharged, on December 29, 2021, Ellie woke up with stomach pain and chest pain, and was rushed to Crosshouse Hospital near her home, and then transferred to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital that night.
At 1am on December 30, baby Hannah was born by emergency caesarean section weighing 312 grams, the youngest baby in the UK to survive in 19 years. At this time, Ellie was 25 weeks pregnant.
Before Hannah, the youngest baby born in the UK was Aaliyah Hart, who was born in 2003 and weighed just 12 ounces (340 grams) and is now 19 years old.
After Hannah was born, her little arms and legs looked almost transparent, and her little feet were not as big as an adult's finger. The doctor told the child's parents that such a small baby would have a hard time surviving, and Hannah had only a 20% chance of survival.
But now 6 weeks have passed, and although Hannah has been battling lung failure during this time, she has opened her eyes and weighed 530 grams.
Previously Hannah had to sleep in an incubator, and now the hospital allows parents to pick up their children.
