On February 16, the United States Amprius company announced the shipment of the first commercial 450Wh/kg lithium-ion battery cells, which is also the highest energy density lithium battery currently available, and will be used in a new generation of high-altitude pseudo-satellites (HAPS).

According to it, these are currently the "highest density in the world" commercial battery cells, "deploying disruptive battery cells in advanced aerospace applications, affirming that Amprius is the leading supplier of the highest energy density batteries available.".

On November 8, 2021, the company announced the mass production of 405Wh/kg batteries, and its energy density climbed to 450Wh/kg in just a few months, which can be said to be very efficient, and it is understood that a key to achieve this result is Amprius's silicon anode (Si-Nanowire platform).

Interestingly, Tesla CEO Musk claimed in 2020 that a 400Wh/kg energy density battery cell can be achieved in only 3-4 years, that is, in 2023-2024, which will greatly reduce the weight of the battery. In this way, Musk is still more conservative.

At present, Tesla Model 3 batteries are the most advanced in the world, with an energy density of up to 260Wh/kg, but even so, compared with Amprius lithium batteries, it is far from the data, the latter energy density is 73% higher than its, while the volume is reduced by 37%.

It is worth noting that Amprius has a very close relationship with Tesla, and its location is near Tesla's battery manufacturing factory and secret battery laboratory, and even moved the office to the Tesla Battery Laboratory, where Tesla will also hold a battery day event.

In the future, the possibility of in-depth cooperation between the two is not ruled out, and once this high-energy density battery is installed, it is not a dream to easily achieve a cruising range of more than 1,000 kilometers.
