On October 21, the Science and Technology Department of Qinghai Province organized experts to evaluate the results of the project "Interaction and Regulation of Soil and Grass in Alpine Grassland Grazing Ecosystems" jointly undertaken by the Academy of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences of Qinghai University, the Northwest Plateau Institute of Biology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Lanzhou University. Relying on the Qinghai Provincial Key Laboratory of Adaptive Management of Alpine Grasslands, the project systematically analyzed the effects of alpine grassland types (alpine meadows, alpine artificial grasslands, alpine grasslands, meadow-based grasslands), grazing livestock species (yaks and Tibetan sheep), grazing intensity and grazing methods on "soil-grassland-livestock" over a period of 23 years, revealing the universal laws of grazing ecosystems in different types of typical alpine grasslands on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

The project determined the maximum (good) livestock productivity grazing intensity of the alpine grassland grazing ecosystem on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, revealed that mixed grazing plays a positive role in the maintenance of meadowed grassland community diversity and ecosystem function, and the research results provide a theoretical basis for the ecological protection and management of the grassland on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, provide technical support for efficient and rational grazing and utilization of alpine grassland, and have important guiding significance for achieving the balance and maintenance of production ecological functions of alpine grassland ecosystems and the sustainable development of ecological animal husbandry in alpine grasslands.
