Fusion of ancient and modern: Art Gallery architecture – modern materials and traditional elements that create an overlapping temporal experience

Qionglai City is a part of the city of Chengdu and is one of the four ancient cities of Bashu. In more than 2300 years of development, the city ruins have not changed, and the culture has been passed down forever. In recent years, Qionglai City has adopted a precinct development model, taking the Wenmai Lane Revitalization Project as a demonstration and vigorously implementing urban renewal projects. A higher pursuit of art. We are fortunate to have built the first art museum in Qionglai City, Qionglai City Art Museum.

Due to its unique roof shape, "Chongluanyuan" became the "nickname" we gave to Qionglai Art Museum. The building can be "seen" through heavy mountains, and visitors can feel the building's rich history as they approach it. After entering the space, people can not only feel leisure, but also enhance the feeling of cultural context.

Because of the unique roof shape, "Chongluan Courtyard" has become the "nickname" we gave to Qionglai Art Museum. The building can be "seen" through the heavy mountain range, and when approaching the building, one can feel the long history when visitors approach the building. After entering the space, people could feel leisure, in addition, to strengthening the feeling of the context of culture.

We abstracted two sloping roofs from the local residential area, using overlapping and connecting relationships, and using the surrounding "mountains" for symmetrical folding, so that the various roofs directly overlapped and connected together to form a "mountain" roof, the shape is consistent with the texture of the residents. Due to the small size of the building, the mass between the roofs is equal, and none of the pieces are absolutely dominant, making the building more compact.

Because the building volume is small, the volume between the roofs is equal, and no piece is absolutely dominant, making the building more compact.

We continue to design with the path of "continuing the texture of streets and alleys, reconstructing the architectural style, and reproducing the bustling forest scenery".

First of all, taking the traditional enclosed courtyard as a building prototype, the blocks are raised to obtain an elevated space on the first floor, and the courtyard is expanded to solve the problem of small space and difficult to comfort the scale of the courtyard.

At the same time, the façade form of the wooden door of the traditional residential house is introduced, forming an interface that can be opened and closed, which realizes the transition between street publicity and courtyard privacy, and enriches the spatial level. Finally, it is covered in conjunction with the "Chongluan Roof", hoping to create an artistic and cultural atmosphere of urban mountain dwellings.

Finally, the combined "Chongluan Roof" was covered, hoping to create an artistic and cultural atmosphere of urban mountain dwellings.

However, construction techniques are limited. In order to maintain the integrity of the architectural form, the façade adopts a double-walled structure and the roof takes the form of folding beams, which achieve the superposition and fluctuation of heavy walls and roofs, while celebrating the traditional aesthetics of ancient architectural structures.

The exterior of the building uses modern materials and traditional elements to create a contrast between the old and the new, hoping to create an experience that overlaps time. On the first floor, open bamboo windows and doors are compared to residential residences to form a unified façade. The exterior wall of the two-storey building is mainly made of recycled green bricks, which rationally utilizes existing resources and continues traditional elements. The three-sided architectural glass curtain wall faces Wenmai Lane and the East-West Square, combined with the wall-embedded water-brushed stone wall, focusing on the line of sight and enhancing commercial value. Adjacent buildings are north and relatively close, set with concrete lattice windows, combining virtual and real, and embellishing the appearance form.

In the interior space, the courtyard is the core of the functional unit of the organization. The inner side of the first floor is a logistics auxiliary room, and other key parts and the second floor can be used as exhibition space for the art museum, providing ample space for art diversion.

The interior studio takes "Yamagata Water" as the overall design concept, echoes the building plan, and the internal space and the external space are unified to a certain extent. At the same time, more modern materials are used in the interior, and historical civilizations and cultural imprints are exchanged in the space, producing new chemical reactions.

The completion of the Qionglai Art Museum has injected a new urban function into Qionglai City, serving as a carrier of historical memory and a space for the dissemination of art and culture. We hope that Wenmai Lane can inherit and develop the beauty of traditional streets and alleys to a certain extent, and at the same time guide and carry a better life for locals in the future, so that it is worth demolishing the historical and cultural block. Absorb the spiritual nutrition of the outside world, stimulate the inner cultural heritage, and slowly accumulate their own culture that blends ancient and modern.
