About the Author

The translator Ji Xianlin (1911.8.6 – 2009.7.11) was an internationally renowned orientalist, linguist, literary scholar, sinologist, Buddhist scholar, historian, educator and social activist. He has served as a member of the Department of Philosophy and Social Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, honorary president of Liaocheng University, vice president of Peking University, director of the Institute of South Asian Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and tenured professor of Peking University.
