Due to weak demand in the smartphone market, Sunny Optics's mobile phone lens shipments in January fell by 11% year-on-year

Jiwei Network news, on the evening of February 11, Sunny Optics issued an announcement on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange that mobile phone lens shipments in January fell by 11% year-on-year, mainly because of the high shipment base in the same period last year and the current weak overall smartphone market demand. In-vehicle lens shipments rose 55.3% month-on-month, mainly due to a lower shipment base due to the impact of the Christmas holiday in December.

Looking back at the company's major product shipments in December 2021, in terms of optical parts, the shipment of glass spherical lenses was 4.318 million pieces, an increase of 28.8% month-on-month, a decrease of 7% year-on-year; the shipment of mobile phone lenses was 121 million pieces, down 2.2% month-on-month, a decrease of 7.3% year-on-year; the shipment of on-board lenses was 4.848 million pieces, a decrease of 3.5% month-on-month, a decrease of 15.5% year-on-year; and the shipment of other lenses was 10.567 million pieces, an increase of 5.3% month-on-month and a year-on-year increase of 32%.

As one of the leading manufacturers in the supply chain of mobile phones and auto parts, Sunny Optics maintained its "better than the market" rating in a research report released by Credit Suisse a few days ago, with a target price of HK$295. Credit Suisse said in the report that it expects Sunny Optics' shipments of mobile camera modules/mobile phone lenses/and in-vehicle lenses to increase by 13%, 15% and 25% year-on-year next year, and believes that it will continue to maintain its leading position in in-vehicle lenses and increase shipments of in-vehicle camera modules, and LiDAR will become the long-term driving force of the automotive business.

Recently, according to South Korean media THELEC reported that the camera module industry Sunny Optics will participate in the early development of the Samsung Electronics low-end model Galaxy A23 5G main camera, the industry expects that Sunny Optics will also launch a low-price offensive in the camera module market after the mobile phone lens.

The news pointed out that Sunny Optics was selected by Samsung Electronics as the "leading" developer of its affordable model Galaxy A23 5G main camera module, which is expected to be released in the second half of the year. In this model, Sunny Optics will lead the development of a 50-megapixel wide-angle camera module using OIS, mainly to provide the initial production of related products. As a result of its initial involvement, Sunny Optics will be the first camera module shipped in the GalaxyA23 5G. (Proofreader/James)
