This 2018 undergraduate student of the School of Resources and Environmental Protection of East China University of Science and Technology, since he first entered the university, has spent almost all his spare time on volunteer work, the Flower Expo, the Expo, the epidemic prevention and control booth, the nucleic acid testing point, and he has his figure everywhere.
No rest days, long time on duty, tired or not? In his view, "devotion itself is a kind of happiness", and he is tired and happy.
In addition to being an epidemic prevention volunteer, he also organized the "Big Hand Holding Small Hand Happy New Year" activity, bringing returning college student volunteers to pair up with troubled teenagers, continuing online tutoring activities, and also conducting environmental education and mental health related knowledge lectures. "Combined with the Beijing Winter Olympics, we also designed activities such as the Winter Olympics, watching the Winter Olympics together, and imitating photos of athletes, so that children can open their eyes to the world!"
An agreement with the children
At the beginning of 2020, the epidemic began to spread, and primary and secondary schools in many places were affected and could not open on time. Huang Qinwei, who is based in Shanghai, provides online tutoring for needy children in his hometown of Qidong through the "Huali Dream" hand-in-hand volunteer tutoring special service program of East China University of Science and Technology. Since then, Huang Qinwei and his friends have lined up classes, given children two hours of classes every weekend, conducted daily remote Q&A, and organized various offline activities during winter and summer vacations.
Tingting, who is in the fifth grade this year, is one of the students Huang Qinwei met when she visited children in need and has been dealing with them for the longest time. Tingting's parents have lost a child, and it was only in her 40s that she gave birth to Tingting again, plus both of them have old diseases and the family has financial difficulties. But Tingting is very sensible, has a good academic performance, and always asks the volunteers for advice.

At this time, an old man in Shanghai handed them an umbrella, said "Don't let the child get rainy", put a plastic bag on his head and got out of the car. This umbrella is still in Tingting's house, and her father told Tingting, "Grandpa, who didn't know each other before, gave you an umbrella, and now these college students come to help you, and be grateful." ”
The home is small, and Tingting does not have her own separate bedroom. In 2021, Huang Qinwei and other volunteers visited and investigated together with the Qidong Youth League Municipal Committee, and made a bedroom renovation plan tailored for more than 30 children in need, including Tingting. This winter vacation, when Huang Qinwei went to Tingting's home, the bedroom has been "transformed", Tingting has a separate room, bookshelves, new beds, air conditioning are fully equipped, Tingting is very happy, always chanting thank you brothers and sisters, the New Year to cook their own food to invite them to eat.
For the volunteers, the continuous provision of volunteer service for more than two years is not only to adhere to the agreement with the children, but also to inherit the spirit of volunteerism.
Volunteering will be "addictive"
"Volunteering is 'addictive'. Dedicate yourself and serve others, and have a strong sense of accomplishment. Since entering school, the reason why Huang Qinwei's cumulative volunteer service time has exceeded 1,000 hours is inseparable from his persistence. Campus dragon boat race, blood donation site, community science popularization activities, epidemic prevention and control points, flower expo, expo, a major memorial hall of the Communist Party of China... He is involved in a variety of volunteer activities. "These jobs are very ordinary, although the position is changing, but what remains unchanged is the original intention of dedication."
At the beginning of 2020, when the epidemic suddenly struck, Huang Qinwei stood up for the first time and became the first batch of epidemic prevention volunteers at the G40 Shanghai-Shaanxi Expressway Dasheng Toll Station, volunteering on the job for 61 consecutive days. He also mobilized more classmates and friends around him to join, and set up a volunteer service team, leading more than 200 returned college students in the city to volunteer work. Under his organization, 7 volunteer service teams have been set up successively, everyone performs their duties, some people guard the road, some people support the community, and some people provide care and companionship services including home care, homework counseling, psychological counseling and other forms of care and companionship for the children of medical workers in Hubei, accumulatively serving tens of thousands of people.
