On February 10, local time, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said that Tesla's "Boombox" function allows vehicles to play sounds through external speakers while driving, violating federal safety standards that require electric vehicles to emit pedestrian warning noise.
It is reported that in December 2020, Tesla launched the "Boombox" function, which allows car owners to customize the sound of the car's horn, built-in farting, imitation of goat calls and trumpets and other audio. In addition, owners can also play music in the car through external speakers, and owners can upload five custom songs while driving a Tesla while playing their favorite music outside the car.
Tesla will recall about 579,000 electric vehicles in the U.S. through an OTA remote software update involving the Model S, Model X, Model Y and Model 3 produced in 2017-2022 in the U.S. market, which will disable the "Boombox" feature.
It is worth mentioning that this is Tesla's tenth recall in four months. (Proofreading/LL)
