The Wall Street Journal reported that Tesla's China Design Center will be located in Beijing. In 2020, Tesla said it would establish a design center in China to build international electric vehicles. Tesla will start hiring for the Center later in 2020, encouraging anyone who is passionate about cars or design to apply for the job.
There are relatively few details in the design center, and Tesla has yet to confirm the specific location of the new building. However, the Wall Street Journal said in a new report on Thursday that the documents showed that Tesla's design center would be located in Beijing.
Beijing released a list of key projects in the region on January 31, which was not noticed until this morning. In addition to Tesla's design center, Chinese smartphone company Xiaomi will build a new electric vehicle factory in Beijing with an annual production capacity of 300,000 vehicles.
Tesla has been tight-lipped about the design center and its possible impact. While Tesla has discussed launching a $25,000 car and a more entry-level model for a larger user base, Tesla hasn't released any news about the new model. Tesla CEO Elon Musk said on the fourth quarter 2021 earnings call that Tesla will not release any new car products this year.
