The hotel comprises 18 rooms, including 7 suites. In 1947, Nintendo's predecessor, Yamauchi Nintendo, established "MarunfuKu Shobo Co., Ltd." as a company that produced and sold hanamaki, carota and playing cards, and was also the place where the founder Yamauchi family lived.

In addition, the new building will be a simple and highly livable space designed and supervised by Tadao Ando, with all rooms equipped with different furnishings. The design was also required to preserve the taste of the architect's Uchiyama house itself.

On December 16, 2021, the Nippon Foundation and Osaka University announced the conceptual design of the Infectious Disease Research Building as part of the "Japan Foundation-Osaka University Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Project" launched in September of the same year. Architect Tadao Ando was responsible for designing and supervising the concept of oval plan architecture inspired by the "Spaceship Earth".

Infectious diseases are a problem that affects all mankind in the world and needs to be solved from multiple perspectives, without regional differences and discrimination. "The architectural design mirrors the elliptical spaceship Earth (which has two centers instead of one). In order to attract domestic and foreign, it must be an influential building. Researchers around the world I hope they gather here to work on solving infectious disease problems. ”

(Tadao Ando)

The study building has 9 floors above ground and is expected to be about 45 meters high. The total area is about 16,000 square meters. The glass-enclosed rooms on the lower floors are positioned as information dissemination bases to showcase domestic and foreign research content.

Construction is scheduled to begin around September 2023 and the goal is to be completed by February 2025. The construction cost is expected to be about 8 billion yen. In addition, the Nippon Foundation has announced plans to fund Osaka University's approximately 23 billion yen infectious disease prevention and control project over the next 10 years.
