Wei Fayun: Illuminate the construction of smart campus with the light of big data concept

author:Bright Net

If the campus informatization construction is divided into two stages: digital campus and smart campus, then we are still in the digital campus stage, limited by the current situation of regional development and unbalanced inter-university development, we are still quite a long way from the smart campus. Objectively speaking, the delay in campus informatization does not lie in the technology itself, but in the disconnect between system design, technology application and construction management. To this end, we should give full play to the advantages of the mainland's system and system, under the guidance of the overall policy of the Ministry of Education's "Specifications for the Construction of Digital Campuses in Colleges and Universities", coordinate technology and management forces, strengthen the diagnosis and improvement guidance of campus informatization, and promote balanced development of one school and one policy.

From a technical point of view, the smart campus is the integration of new technologies such as the Internet, cloud computing, big data, the Internet of Things, and artificial intelligence, which helps us to carry out teaching, research and management activities. This "integrated circuit", focusing on environmental perception, data support, network interoperability, with its high IQ, high emotional intelligence, ultra-high computing ability and analysis ability, will consolidate the foundation of our education informatization and modernization.

From a sociological point of view, the construction of smart campuses under the new technical support should follow the laws of education, lead the innovation of educational methods and methods, and support the integration of teaching, scientific research, administration, logistics and physical campuses to make it an open community, and data is the soul that supports its existence. We are in the data age, data is an important element of our life and work, we are both producers of data and users of data.

Big data emphasizes the concept of all-data, which is characterized by pluralism, complexity, dynamics, value and relevance. For example, according to big data thinking, the wind has left a sound, the people have left a trace, and everything can be expressed through values, words, sounds and images. All activities of universities can be recorded, quantified and analyzed through smart campus.

Big data believes that every event is a multivariate system of multiple equations, and every change in the independent variable will affect its development and change path. For the development of things, traditional thinking supports the theory of causation. The concept of relevance of big data is a network of thinking, which actually emphasizes one effect and multiple causes, which is conducive to our objective understanding of this uncertain world and observing the process and overall picture of events. For example, in the prevention and control of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, big data traces the root cause and reflects all related time, space, people and events as soon as possible, which is very effective for epidemic prevention and control. This helps us understand the butterfly effect well, the "black swan" event and the "gray rhinoceros" event.

The concept of all data requires us to open up data islands, realize the interconnection of information, and make good use of structural, non-structural and semi-structural data. In this way, both managers and decision-makers have a comprehensive grasp of school teaching, scientific research and management, and there will be no one-sided mistakes of blindness and blindness.

Big data also reminds us that our research objects, our internal and external environments for teaching, research and management, are in flux all the time, which requires us to dynamically track and examine research objects. The positioning, qualitative, quantitative, timing and accurate portrait of the research object is mainly to describe the past development trajectory and current situation, and the prediction of the future cannot be calculated according to linear logic and mathematical logic. Therefore, the data reflects only the past, and the judgment of the future also requires the wisdom of the analyst and the deduction of multiple solutions for the uncertainty of the future. That is to say, we need to use data to build a smart campus, but we can't rely entirely on data, we must exert the initiative of "people", and pay attention to cultivating a group of high-level data analysis and management teams that understand technology and education.
