Yesterday I re-brushed the classic "The Shawshank Redemption". After watching it, I have a new feeling, before watching the movie only focused on the protagonist Andy, the biggest feeling is that there is hope that I will eventually be free. This time, I focused on a small supporting character, Tommy.
01 Tommy's death is inevitable but not deserved
The character of Tommy is small, but it is important because the film tells the truth about Andy's wife murder through his mouth. Tommy says that he met a prisoner while in prison, and the prisoner himself said that he had killed the banker's wife and lover! It turns out that Andy really didn't kill anyone, he was innocent, which made the audience sympathize with Andy even more.
When Andy approached the warden to tell him about it, hoping to retry his case, he was rejected, which was actually reasonable. What kind of humanity can the warden who embezzles and bribes money everywhere have, and he still relies on Andy to launder black money for him, how can he give Andy a chance to exonerate him? If Andy gets out of jail and talks about his corruption, he's dead. So, he would never let Go of Andy.
Andy is locked up, and the only witness, Tommy, is shot at the behest of the warden! Such an ending is inevitable.
Tommy didn't deserve to die, he was different from other felons, he was guilty of theft, and he could get out of prison after serving his sentence.
Tommy is a humorous, kind, energetic young man who easily gets along with people.
He made mistakes, but when he decided to change, he really worked hard. He wanted to study, but he didn't know words, but he was willing to start with "ABC". In the end, he passed the entrance exam, and if he could get out of prison, I believe he would be reformed, but with the sound of a gunshot, his young life was over forever!
02 Turning back is the shore, but it is difficult to have a chance to turn back
Tommy's family has a wife and a daughter, and if he works steadily, he will have a happy life. However, he took a crooked path, stole repeatedly, and often patronized the prison.
One cannot go down the inclined road, otherwise one will only fall into the swamp, sinking deeper and deeper.
He steals, so he goes to jail, so he goes to jail so he runs into that bad fellow inmate, willing to testify for Andy, and ends up being shot. His death seemed occasional but inevitable. There is an old saying that people walk by the river, and there are shoes that are not wet. Always wandering in the dark corners of society, the odds of being swallowed up by the darkness are of course much greater!
The mother-in-law's son, who had just entered junior high school, was spoiled to be rude, not independent, and had poor grades. My mother-in-law once said: "We don't expect him to go to college, as long as he doesn't kill people and set fires to him in the future, he won't steal or rob."
She is a compromise on not being able to change her son's status quo. I think that no parent can give up the education and guidance of their children. When children are not motivated, they are more likely to go astray and more dangerous.
03 Don't do stupid things, otherwise one wrong step is wrong
Andy's wife's death was a bane the moment she cheated. She complained to Andy many times: "I don't understand you, you're like a book together." I believe that at first she loved Andy, but when she did not love, she did not divorce first, but chose to cheat.
Andy, faced with his wife's infidelity, did not let go in time to track her down, and even drank alcohol and took a gun. Although he did not kill people, this action put him in prison. If his wife and lover had not been killed by others, his mentality might have gone wrong.
One cannot take the wrong path, one wrong step at a time.
