Answer a reporter's question on THE US arms sales to Taiwan
Q: According to reports, the US Defense and Security Cooperation Agency announced on February 7 that the US side has approved the sale of about US$100 million worth of Patriot missile defense system equipment and services to Taiwan. Do you have any comment on this?
Answer: The US arms sale to the Taiwan region seriously violates the one-China principle and the provisions of the three Sino-US joint communiques, especially the "August 17" communique, grossly interferes in China's internal affairs, harms China's sovereignty and security interests, undermines Sino-US relations between the two militaries, and endangers peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait region.
There is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory. The Chinese side strongly demands that the US side immediately revoke the above-mentioned arms sales plan to Taiwan, stop US-Taiwan military ties, and stop sending erroneous signals to the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces, so as not to cause serious consequences to Sino-US relations between the two militaries and the taiwan Strait.
Taiwan's future lies in national reunification, and Taiwan's security depends on the joint efforts of compatriots on both sides of the strait under the one-China principle, and is by no means a US arms sale to Taiwan. Chinese People's Liberation Army will take all necessary measures to firmly safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity, resolutely thwart any form of interference by external forces and "Taiwan independence" separatist plots, and continue to advance the process of reunification of the motherland.
