Contamination of raw materials at Yoshinori City and Kitakami Factory affected 3D NAND production capacity

In late January, mie prefecture's Yokkaichi factory and Iwate Prefecture Kitakami Factory suspected contamination of materials used in their manufacturing processes, partially affecting the production of 3D BiCS FLASH at both plants.

Armor is taking the necessary steps to restore the facility to normal operation as soon as possible. The company does not expect shipments of its traditional 2D NAND flash memory to be affected and will continue to make every effort to minimize the impact on customers.

Meanwhile, Western Digital commented on the production status of its joint venture flash manufacturing facility with Jiaoxia, saying that Western Digital's current assessment of the impact is that its flash availability has been reduced by at least 6.5 exabytes. The company is working closely with its joint venture partner, Kaoya, to implement the necessary measures to get the facility back to normal operating conditions as soon as possible.
