The former League One player tore the meniscus apart after his comeback and launched a crowdfunding campaign to save his career

According to the Mirror, former League One striker Marcus Maddison played for Peterborough United and Bolton Wanderers F.C. in League One, but in April 2021, the 27-year-old announced his retirement and later decided to make a comeback to join an amateur team. He later tore the meniscus apart, so he launched a crowdfunding campaign to draw £3,000 to treat injuries and continue his professional football career.

A few days after the crowdfunding was launched, Madison had already drawn £3,645, and one of his former teammates had donated a thousand pounds.

Madison said: "I've seen incredible generosity from people over the last few days and we've reached our goal. I've spoken to the hospital and they'll operate on me this week and once the surgery goes well I can start recovering and continue my football career. ”

In launching the crowdfunding, Madison said in a statement: "I now want to continue what I do best and love most: play football! But there was a difficulty ahead of me that stood in my way. My meniscus was torn and I needed surgery, which cost more than I could. Due to depression, I couldn't work for the past year. ”

"I am very grateful for the support you have given me during this time, and no amount of gratitude is enough to express my feelings! But now I need your help that will allow me to take on the surgery and post-operative care and get back on the pitch to pursue what I love. ”
