Winter self-driving tour, what do you need to prepare in advance on the car?
First, bring a good snow chain.
The general snow chain is divided into three types: plastic cable tie type, metal type, rubber type.
Let's first talk about the metal type and rubber type snow chain, which are directly attached to the tire, and when installed, only with the help of the jack that comes with the car can be installed.
First use the jack to lift one side of the tire, then put the snow chain on the tire, and then hook the wire rope on the inside of the snow chain and the hook at the interface.
Finally, put the rubber band of the snow chain on the hook on the side of the snow chain, and the rubber band must be set with more than two, three is the best!
I do not recommend that you press the wheels on the snow chain first, and then install, which will be more troublesome, the wheel directly up to install will be more relaxed, and can also put the snow chain more symmetrical!
But here to note, the general snow chain is a set of two, if your car is a front-drive or four-wheel drive, then the snow chain should be installed on two front wheels.
Because in addition to providing driving force, the two front wheels also provide steering force, and most of the braking force, so the snow chain should be prioritized to install the front wheel.
If it is a rear-drive car, then it is best to buy two sets of snow chains, that is, all four wheels must be installed.
Because the drive wheels of the rear-drive car are the rear wheels, but the steering force and most of the braking force need two front wheels to provide, so the snow chains of the four wheels are indispensable.
Finally, there is the plastic cable tie type snow chain, which I strongly do not recommend!
Although it is easy to install, it only needs to go directly through the wheel hub, face outward with the side with the plastic nails and tie it to the tire.
However, the brake sub-pump of some cars is relatively close to the wheel hub, and it is easy to wear off the cable.
Once it breaks, there is a high probability that it will scratch or tear off the brake hose, which is more dangerous and is highly recommended for everyone!
And the plastic itself is relatively hard in winter, which will also increase the risk of breaking, just like the plastic cable chain I bought back, it has broken off one on the way over...
Second, prepare the de-icing agent.
If you plan to go to the old brother who is going to go on a road trip in winter, be sure to prepare de-icing agent, because as long as the car is parked in an area below zero degrees Celsius for one night, there will be a layer of ice on the windshield, and if it snows overnight, then it will be even worse!
Because the fruit is only glass frost, with the snow shovel can also be barely shoveled clean, but if the windshield is frozen, then at least in the cold wind shovel ice for ten minutes, anyway, I refuse...
So I usually carry an ice remover with the car in the winter, and when the windshield freezes, I spray it directly on the windshield, and the ice will immediately start to melt.
I just have to sit in the car and wait for two minutes after the spray, then turn on the wiper and spray the water while scraping the glass to quickly scrape off the ice on the glass.
And this powerful Würth de-icing agent I use, in addition to being able to quickly de-icing, can also ensure that the glass will not freeze again in a certain period of time, has excellent material compatibility, and will not corrode the plastic, wiper strips, paint and other parts of the body!
Third, prepare antifreeze glass water.
Up to now, there are still many brothers who feel that there is no need to change antifreeze glass water.
They think that after the engine is started, the heat generated will melt the glass water frozen in the glass kettle, so it doesn't matter if the glass water freezes.
But in fact, this idea is very dangerous!
Because as long as you drive in a sub-zero environment, if you do not use antifreeze glass water, even if the glass water does not freeze in the glass kettle, but when it is sprayed on the windshield, it will immediately freeze on the windshield.
Then you can't see the road ahead, how dangerous this is, you don't need me to say more, so it is still very necessary to use antifreeze glass water!
But if you go out by car, the trunk has been stuffed with luggage, and you have to bring a few more bottles of glass water, which will make people very resistant, and they don't want to bring it in an instant.
So I usually bring a one-liter bottle of -63 ° C antifreeze glass water, because its freezing point is low enough that I can dilute it with pure water according to the actual temperature, which is very convenient.
Because I have tested, after diluting the freezing point of -63 ° C antifreeze glass water and pure water in the ratio of 1:1, the freezing point of glass water is -26 ° C, after dilution according to the ratio of 1:2, the freezing point is -12 ° C, and after dilution according to the ratio of 1:3, the freezing point is -5 ° C.
So it is enough to drive out in winter with a bottle of glass water, and it does not take up space!
Of course, more importantly, antifreeze glass water must be purchased with ethanol as the main raw material. For example, this Würth-63°C antifreeze glass water I use is glass water with ethanol as the main raw material.
Try not to buy glass water with methanol as the main raw material, although it is cheap.
Because after the methanol glass water is sprayed on the glass, the gas it volatilizes is likely to be directly sucked into the air conditioning inlet directly below the windshield into the car, causing dizziness, fatigue and other poisoning symptoms of the people in the car.
This is very dangerous for people who drive, this must be kept in mind!
Fourth, ensure that the engine oil and antifreeze will not freeze.
Because these two liquids are directly related to whether the car can start normally and whether it can continue to operate normally.
Let's start with the oil, the current mainstream 0W label on the market at the beginning of the oil, basically can ensure that there is enough fluidity at a temperature above -35 ° C for the engine to start.
This is enough for most parts of the continent, but after all, the continent is vast, and there will still be some areas where the temperature is below -35 ° C.
In this environment, the normal oil starting with 0W may have difficulty starting. However, it is generally possible to fire a few times and barely start.
But if you drive to an extremely cold area, then simply learn from the residents of Oymyakon, Russia, and directly do not turn off the fire for 24 hours... Because their winter temperature there is as low as -70 ° C, the fire may not be extinguished.
The second is antifreeze, which is generally enough in most parts of the continent at -35 ° C freezing.
But if the temperature of the place you want to go is extremely low, you need to replace the antifreeze with a lower freezing point.
Otherwise, once the antifreeze freezes in the engine, it may directly burst the engine... Therefore, it is important to replace the antifreeze with a lower freezing point in advance.
Theoretically, when the moisture content of the ethylene glycol antifreeze of the family car is 68%, it can reach its theoretical minimum freezing point of -68 ° C, and this product can also be purchased on the market.
If the ambient temperature is a little lower, it is necessary to propylene glycol antifreeze, its theoretical freezing point value is -75 ° C, of course, the price will be a little more expensive, and too viscous, the heat dissipation function is poor, only recommended to use in extremely cold environments!
