The "exhaust" drainage of the Winter Olympic bus is clear and pure

author:Bright Net

Is the "exhaust" of the bus platoon in the Zhangjiakou area of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics pure water?

It sounds like "science fiction", but the truth is that the fuel of these buses is hydrogen, and the "exhaust" emitted is pure water that is cleaner than drinking water, which is the standard H2O. And these buses all have the same name – hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.

It is understood that the high mountain road in the Zhangjiakou racing area is slippery, the temperature is low and the slope is steep, and the vehicle needs to have a long endurance. The Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee comprehensively considers the vehicle use environment, takes safety as the premise, applies energy-saving and clean energy vehicles to the greatest extent, reduces carbon emissions, and formulates the configuration principle of "pure electric and natural gas vehicles are mainly used in the Beijing Competition Area; hydrogen fuel vehicles are mainly used in yanqing and Zhangjiakou Competition Areas". Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles rely on the electrochemical reaction of hydrogen and oxygen in the hydrogen fuel cell stack to generate electrical energy, while the hydrogen and oxygen reaction will only generate water. The reporter found that after a period of time, the bus started to flow out of the water, the discharge is not very large, about tens of milliliters at a time, the water in the cup is clear after catching it, and there is no odor, because the discharge is only water, it is the standard H2O, theoretically, this cup of water can be directly drunk.

Are hydrogen fuel buses safe? The answer is yes.

It is reported that the hydrogen fuel cell vehicle is to hydrogenate the car, hydrogen and oxygen is not direct combustion, but through the chemical reaction of hydrogen and oxygen ions "on-site power generation", so as to discharge water, so that green pollution-free. At the same time, hydrogen fuel cell vehicles also have the characteristics of fast energy replenishment speed and less time, compared with traditional fuel vehicles, hydrogen fuel vehicle safety factor is obviously higher.

The reporter learned that during the 2022 Winter Olympics, there are 543 hydrogen fuel cell buses in Zhangjiakou (357 in Zhangjiakou Bus Company, 120 in Mizuki, and 66 in Toyota) as traffic support vehicles for the Winter Olympics and Paralympics, and the green and environmentally friendly hydrogen fuel cell buses have the outstanding advantages of zero emissions, low noise, and can absorb PM2.5 particulate matter and pollutants in the atmosphere, and hydrogen fuel buses are widely used in the Winter Olympics area, fully practicing the host city." Green Olympics" commitment.

During the Winter Olympics and Paralympic Winter Games, Zhangjiakou Bus Group hydrogen fuel cell buses will provide transportation services for athletes from all over the world, designing a total of 8 athlete shuttle bus lines and running more than 130 vehicles per day, accounting for more than 30% of all vehicles. On average, there are more than 550 daily departures and more than 4,100 athletes.

According to reports, each hydrogen fuel bus running 10,000 kilometers can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 11.8 tons. During the Winter Olympics test match, the hydrogen energy bus ran smoothly under conditions of more than minus 20 degrees Celsius, and its stability and safety were verified.

At the same time, Zhangjiakou City has accelerated the construction of a comprehensive utilization industrial system for hydrogen energy, and has initially formed a whole industrial chain of hydrogen production, hydrogenation, hydrogen storage, hydrogen energy industry equipment manufacturing, hydrogen fuel cell core components manufacturing, and hydrogen energy vehicle manufacturing. At present, Zhangjiakou has 2 hydrogen plants and 8 hydrogen refueling stations, which can meet the security needs of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles at the Beijing Winter Olympics.
