crazy! The Tesla Cyber pickup transforms into a high-performance catamaran

The extent of this impact is still unknown, but pre-orderers of Tesla Cybercarriers may face longer wait times as CEO Elon Musk recently announced that the first deliveries of electric trucks will be delayed until 2023. But on the other hand, it gives them more time to think about third-party products about Tesla — one of the craziest concepts to date: the CyberCAT.

The Tesla Cybercard is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated models, and despite the long production delays, the "hype" surrounding it continues. It has inspired many third-party offer upgrades and designs. In recent months, several companies have hoped to take advantage of this opportunity by announcing increased after-sales service for electric pickups, including, for example, a motorhome component (pictured below), which is said to have won pre-orders worth $100 million for their manufacturers.

Jeep has said that a submersible all-electric Wrangler is not entirely impossible, but the Cybercatcher breaks the concept, a kit that converts a Cyber pickup into a hydrophilic catamaran, as well as a hydrofoil, Cyber Island or Cyber house.

From cyber houses to cybercatchers to add-on solar panels, the Cyber pickup proves to be a highly desirable retrofit platform, especially for startups looking to profit from interest in Tesla's electric trucks.

It's important to mention the background of the startup Cybercat, an entrepreneur, Tesla owner (and Cyber Truck booking holder) from the greater Seattle area of tech wizard Anthony Diamond.

Diamond is the CEO and founder of software company Memory Maps. He was named to forbes' list of 30 under 30 energy leaders in 2017 and holds a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from UC Berkeley and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University.

Diamond's idea was to add modules to the Cyber pickup and turn it into a catamaran or hydrofoil, based on what Elon Musk had talked about the amphibious potential of electric pickups. Thus, the Cybertron catamaran was born, which is basically a series of components that can be loaded on a pickup truck without affecting the voyage, turning it into a ship. The estimated cost is cheaper than the actual boat, both for maintenance and initial price, it is also easier to assemble, all components can be folded for easy storage in pickup trucks, and it takes only 5 to 10 minutes to convert from a land vehicle to a boat by an operator.

Diamond explains: "I've always dreamed of a way to jump over the water easily and quickly when I wanted it, and it was cheap, didn't require boat parking (dock mooring) and, most importantly, given my background in climate technology, it was best to be clean".

The Cybercatcher will be the answer to all these questions, even in the most basic configuration. The price of this catamaran kit is between $22,000 and $32,900, depending on the number of 50-kilowatt electric engines you want to add. Up to 5 units with a total output of 335 hp.

The top speed is estimated at 22 knots (over 25 mph/40 km/h), 100 nautical miles (115 mph/185 km/ h) at cruising speeds of 5 knots (5.7 mph/9.2 km/h) and 44 nautical miles (51 mph/81 km) at cruising speeds of 13 knots (15 mph/24 km/h).

For more impressive performance, Diamond suggested converting it into a Cyberfoil by upgrading components (above). The kit is priced at between $35,400 and $42,900, also depending on the number of engines, with a top speed of 35 knots (40 mph) and an estimated range of 65 nautical miles (75 mph/120 km/h) at 22 knots (25 mph/40 km/h).

The outboard engine (and hydrofoil catamaran) rotates completely under the open tailgate for easy launch when the tailscreen is lowered, perfect for spending the day on the water, scuba diving, swimming or sunbathing.

All of this is very interesting, since cyber trucks can be converted into a ship, are there other ways to do this? In this sense, Diamond made two proposals, Cyber Island and Cyber House.

The Cyber Island concept is basically a floating dwelling consisting of the tails and pontoons of several Cyberconoids. "Cyber pickups provide electricity for easy cooking, charging electric engines, and supporting countless other activities for endless fun on the water," Diamond explains. The boathouse is basically a cybercatcher catamaran with pop-up tents or camper shells, moored on the dock and turned into a permanent floating dwelling.

The images above include renderings of the Cybercatran and Cybercatll Hydrofoil, as well as the Cyber Island and Cyberspace. CGI technology still has a lot to offer, but signs on its website suggest they clearly intend to bring it to market, Cybercat is patent pending, and both versions of the suite are being pre-ordered. However, this step from concept to actual production can be a huge leap forward, as just looking at the Cyber pickup itself makes you understand how challenging it is.

The design is similar to the principle of a classic car-to-power boat released by Italian design studio Lazzarini last year, except that the Cybercatcher seems to be easier to implement.
