According to Bloomberg on Tuesday, Apple has acquired a startup called AI Music, which uses artificial intelligence to generate tailored music designed to create customized audio solutions for marketers, publishers, fitness people and creative agencies.

Leveraging royalty-free music and artificial intelligence, AI Music develops technology that can generate dynamic audio tracks that change based on user interactions. For example, the music during a workout can change depending on the wearer's heartbeat to adapt to the intensity of the workout, and songs in video games can also change depending on the user's mood.

AI Music's website is no longer operational, but the company's previous LinkedIn page says it has a "mission to redefine the way we create, interact with, and experience music." The startup had earlier worked with advertising agencies to create more engaging ads that play different music depending on the audience.

Apple may leverage AI music technology in a number of ways. In fact, this kind of song that can be updated according to the heart rhythm may be useful for Apple Fitness+, and Apple's photos app also uses royalty-free music to provide songs for the photo slideshow, so on-demand, mood-friendly music can come in handy.

Apple representatives declined to comment on the deal.

Plus, while relatively small, the deal is one of the few acquisitions Apple has made in the past year. Apple's most recent purchase was also reportedly from a music company: Primephonic.

Primephonic mainly offers classical music streaming services, and Apple intends to turn it into an Apple Music-related app this year.

According to a Document in October, Apple slowed acquisition spending significantly in 2021, investing just $33 million in transaction payments in the current fiscal year, down from $1.5 billion in 2020 and $624 million in 2019.
