TA Exclusive: Chelsea pays 6 figures in compensation to each of the 4 players who have been racially discriminated against

The Athletic UK exclusively reported that Chelsea have agreed to pay compensation to four professional players of the year, who claim to be victims of "racist bullying" in the 1990s and filed a civil lawsuit against the club.

After intensive negotiations between the two sides' lawyers last week, the two sides reached an out-of-court settlement on Monday morning. Prior to this, the High Court of London would have held a pre-trial hearing.

The TA's understanding is that each of the four players will receive a 6-figure compensation.

David McLennahhan, a partner at Bolt Burdon Kemp, a law firm representing the plaintiffs, said in court monday: "We are grateful to have been given extra time. We are pleased to inform you that the parties have reached a settlement agreement and therefore there is no need for a pre-trial at this time. ”

A five-week trial was scheduled for March 7, when 62 witnesses would testify, including some of the biggest names who played or worked at Chelsea during Ken Bates' tenure.

High court documents say the young black players were punched and kicked by their own coaches and suffered other attacks.

One of the black players said he had been repeatedly beaten by the club's academy coach, Graham Rix, and he had also been beaten several times by the club's head of youth development, Gwyn Williams.

Both declined to comment on ta, with the former denying all allegations and Williams admitting only to having used racist statements. In addition, in fact two years ago there was a public apology, but in the end Chelsea paid compensation.
