Beijing, 7 Feb (Xinhua) -- On 7 February, the Beijing Winter Olympics entered its third day of competition after the opening ceremony, and a total of nine gold medals were awarded in each arena.

In the figure skating team competition, the Russian Olympic Committee team won the championship with a total of 74 points, and the silver and bronze medals were won by the United States and Japan respectively. The Chinese team, which qualified for the first time in the free skating team competition of the Winter Olympics, finally ranked fifth, setting a record for the team competition of the Winter Olympics. In the pairs skating free skating competition held on the same day, the Chinese team sent Peng Cheng/ Jin Yang to participate, and the two chose music from the movie "Night Banquet" and ranked third with 131.75 points; the Chinese team ice dance group Wang Shiyue / Liu Xinyu appeared in the Chinese style repertoire, ranking fourth; the women's singles player Zhu Yi ranked fifth.

China's Han Mei, Yin Qi and Ahrnar Adak finished eleventh, fifteenth and seventeenth respectively.

The National Alpine Ski Centre produced the first two gold medals in alpine skiing at the Winter Olympics. The men's downhill final, which was scheduled for February 6, was postponed to the 7th due to weather conditions, and after a fierce competition, Swiss player Beat Furtz won the championship with a time of 1:42.69. In the women's 15 km individual event in biathlon, Germany's Dennis Hermann won the gold medal, France's Anai Chevalier Boucher and Norway's Matt Olseb Reseland won silver and bronze medals respectively. In the ski jump mixed team final, Slovenia, the Russian Olympic Committee and Canada finished in the top three.
