A few days ago, according to foreign media Automobilwoche quoted a board member as saying, Volkswagen expects the global semiconductor shortage not to end this year, although the second half of the year may ease.
In an interview with Automobilwoche, Murat Axel, Head of Purchasing at Volkswagen's Board of Directors, said: "The turbulent situation will continue to affect us at least after the first half of this year. ”
Global automakers have been hit by semiconductor shortages due to disruptions in the COVID-19 supply chain and soaring demand for semiconductors from consumer electronics companies. Axel said there are clearly structural problems and demand from the automotive industry will continue to rise.
Therefore, instead of focusing on the suppliers behind chip deliveries demanding damages, he said, it would be better to work closely with them to ensure better availability.
Axel further said that by 2023, when more semiconductor capacity comes online, it should be easier to make reliable predictions.
