Warriors reporter Conor Letourneau reported that Wiseman had not been allowed to work on his contact after nearly 10 months of knee surgery, but on Saturday he did usher in an important milestone: his first team training after surgery.
In contactless group training, Wiseman was impressive, quickly mastering some (tactical) concepts and demonstrating his fairly athletic prowess. However, perhaps the biggest gain was his almost unchanging smile.
It was a frustrating recovery process for Wiseman, who the team initially hoped would return to the field about six months after surgically repairing a torn right meniscus in mid-April. He still has no timetable for his return. The Warriors are optimistic that Wiseman will be in 3-on-3 matchmaking training in the coming days. After that, he needs to participate in a 4-on-4 and 5-on-5 melee before he can adapt to the game.
Last month, head coach Steve Kerr said he had guessed when Wiseman would be back. A rehabilitation full of unexpected setbacks has made Cole more willing to focus on the present.
