Tropical monsoon, China-Myanmar border... These labels of Dehong Dai Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan Province will not make you feel that this boundary has anything to do with snow.

But today, an athlete born here stepped onto the Beijing Winter Olympic Ski Jumping Arena - Beijing girl Peng Qingyue, who was originally a short-span athlete of DehongZhou Sports School in Yunnan Province, entered the ski jumping national training team at the end of 2018 through cross-border cross-sports selection. Since then, this girl from the tropics has ushered in her own Frozen.

A tropical girl preparing for the Winter Olympics

In the winter of 2018, 13-year-old Peng Qingyue began to contact a completely unfamiliar sport: ski jumping. Before that, the junior high school girl from the tropical monsoon zone hadn't even seen much snow. When she first joined the team, Peng Qingyue did not stand out immediately - born in 2005, she still needed time to develop her body and mind. However, the coaching team was very sure of the youngster's talent from the beginning, "there is an incredible energy in her body, but she herself has not realized it." What our coaches have to do is keep her on the right track all the time. ”

For more than a year, Peng Qingyue's performance has been tepid, not particularly brilliant, and has not been left behind. In the summer of 2020, the 15-year-old Peng Qingyue showed outstanding physical fitness and tenacious will in the Chinese Ice and Snow Physical Fitness Competition, especially her explosiveness, which left a deep impression on the coaching team. During the training, the coaches often lamented the amazing energy in the little girl's body: "What a good seedling! "The original project will also be successful!"

After the end of the summer training, the team transferred to the Jilin Beidahu Ski Resort, and Peng Qingyue made a mistake in the first K50 training and fell heavily to the ground, resulting in a concussion. Ski jumping is a sport that emphasizes the overall ability of athletes, and sometimes psychological shadows have a greater impact on the state of athletes than physical pain. After this injury, Peng Qingyue's progress on the jumping platform has slowed down. But the coaches are not in a hurry," Peng Qingyue showed awe rather than fear. She has made great progress in a short period of time, but she should also realize that her time on the stage is still very short, and the foundation is not strong enough. It's nice to have made such progress in just over a year, but she doesn't yet recognize the boundaries of her abilities, and it's normal to be in awe of ski jumping in this situation. ”

As a result, Peng Qingyue underwent nearly two months of adjustment on the K50 stage of Peking University. While almost all the athletes had already climbed the standard stage (K90), she was still jumping from the K50 stage again and again. This lag in progress did not discourage her, peng Qingyue in training was still very happy, loudly asking the coaches on the cable car for their opinions, and then showing a cheerful smile, climbing up the stairs, sitting on the sliding door, sliding down again, jumping, landing... This happiness does not mean that she does not try her best, on the contrary, the love of ski jumping makes her more obsessed with polishing every detail. After repeated tempering, Peng Qingyue finally gradually adapted to the K50 and transferred to the standard platform for training.

Thick and thin hair is a blockbuster

In the late autumn of the Jilin Beidaju Training Base, Peng Qingyue sat on the sliding door of the standard platform for the first time. This picture will look a little desolate to others, the cold wind wrapped around the yellow leaves, and on the 100-meter high platform, a thin little girl sits there alone. But this is the daily routine that every ski jumper must endure.

Although he crossed the K50 hurdle, Peng Qingyue once again ushered in a bottleneck on the standard platform - the landing point of each jump was always hovering near the first distance line of the landing slope. The coach found that the athlete's adaptation to the new jump and new equipment was significantly slower than others, but the coaching team was still not in a hurry, "probably due to young age." "It may be a good thing, but it shows that her movements feel very delicate." "It should be the kind of athlete who doesn't make a sound, and makes a splash." And Peng Qingyue didn't seem to care too much, still training hard, happily joking with teammates and coaches during training breaks.

After the team transferred to Hebei Laiyuan, Peng Qingyue, who gradually matured physically and mentally, began to cash in on his talent, and from November onwards, he constantly refreshed his best results on the standard stage. The coaches gradually found that they did not know how high the ceiling of this little girl really was, and all they could do was that Peng Qingyue had the ability to reach the world-class level.

After another winter of hard training and summer training of physical reserves, when the Winter Olympic season came, Peng Qingyue had become a mature ski jumper. In July 2021, 16-year-old Peng Qingyue performed his first big jump training in Kuopio, Finland. In the winter Olympic season that followed, her performance even shocked the coach. Not long after she was on the big jump, she achieved many good results in the big jumping event of the Summer Grand Prix, among which in the qualification round of Tchaikovsky Station in Russia, Peng Qingyue jumped out of the 9th place, and together with her teammate Dong Bing, she unlocked the second Beijing Winter Olympic Women's Ski Jumping Qualification for the Chinese team.

She's just a girl

More than three years passed, and Peng Qingyue transformed from a junior high school student from the southwestern border of the motherland to an athlete who was about to play for the country at the winter Olympics in his home country. But now, she is only 17 years old, in addition to laughing and playing, she also likes all the things that girls of the same age like - social media, selfies, learning English, chasing stars... On social media, she will send a lot of selfies in a row, and she will also like the warm-up videos of the Winter Olympics made by major media for her, and she will also post her own training and life clips. Peng Qingyue's latest post is a group photo before the ski jumping national team goes to the Winter Olympics, with the caption "Happy New Year to everyone!" Tiger tiger might! ”

Her English is also very good, the new translator is not familiar with the project, the professional vocabulary is not accurate, Peng Qingyue can sometimes help the translator explain, in the training, she can basically understand the instructions and intentions of the foreign teacher.

Today, Peng Qingyue sat at the starting gate of the Beijing Winter Olympic Ski Jumping Competition and competed with her idol, Nika Kriznar. Whatever the outcome, we all have reason to believe that this tropical girl's Frozen is just beginning.
