The fifth day of the Lunar New Year
february 5, 2022 | Saturday
The fifth day of the first lunar month, commonly known as the Breaking Of the Five Festivals, is one of the traditional Chinese festivals with a long history. It is named after the Chinese folklore that many previous taboos can be broken on this day. Because this day bears too many people's hopes and expectations, there are many taboos on this day in ancient times, such as eating dumplings on this day, not cooking with raw rice, and not allowing women to visit the door.
In the "Records of the Yanjing Dynasty", it is said that the fifth day of the first month is called 'breaking the fifth', and within the 'broken five' it is not allowed to cook with raw rice, and women are not allowed to go out. On the sixth day of the first month, the crown princess and the eunuchs exchanged greetings to each other. The newlywed women also returned to Ningning on the same day, and the merchants gradually opened their trade.
The "Qing Pei Banknote" also states: "The fifth day of the first month of the first month is the fifth day of the break, and women are not allowed to go out."
