Beijing, 4 Feb (Xinhua) -- International Olympic Committee President Bach participated in the torch relay activities for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics in Beijing Olympic Forest Park on the morning of 4 February. Bach said participating in the torch relay has given him more confidence in the success of the Beijing Winter Olympics.
During the day's relay, Bach's first torchbearer was IOC commissioner Zhang Hong, while his latter torchbearer was Abdullah Shahid, President of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Bach said it's always great to pass the Olympic torch, especially to participate in the relay before the opening ceremony, which also makes him more confident about the success of the Beijing Winter Olympics.
"The message of the Olympic torch is unity and recovery. It shows that even in the current situation of the epidemic, we can unite and seek common ground while reserving differences. ”
Asked about the opening ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympics that would take place that evening, Bach said: "I know a little bit about the opening ceremony. I think we are all looking forward to an exciting opening ceremony. The opening ceremony will be different from the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, but at least it will be just as exciting. ”
Participating in the torch relay with Bach also made Zhang Hong very excited. The 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics speed skater also made a speed skating move while passing the torch.
