Approaching the New Year, in the early morning of the first day after the snow, the sun sprinkled in the courtyard of the home of Xue Zhenxi, a 91-year-old veteran of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, bright and warm.

It's the good weather veterans are looking forward to. On this day, Xue Zhenxi, who lived in Qiaozhuang Village, Mengdian Township, Yanshan County, Cangzhou City, Hebei Province, wanted to go to Wang Fu'e Village in Hanji Town to meet with his old comrade-in-arms Wang Jinrong.

Last year, the Cangzhou Military Sub-district, in conjunction with relevant units, searched for 106 local veterans of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea and filmed a television program entitled "Search for Veterans of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea." After the show was broadcast, some veterans were eager to meet their old comrades-in-arms.

After learning of the veteran's wish, the Cangzhou Military Subdistrict and the Yanshan County People's Armed Forces Department, together with social welfare groups, decided to first contact Wang Jinrong, who was in better physical condition and with a relatively close residence, to meet with Xue Zhenxi, and help them to video connect with Xu Fengtian, a veteran in Dongguang County, Cangzhou City. In this way, the dreams of veterans are fulfilled and the heroes are blessed.

Putting on a green military uniform and a military merit badge, Xue Zhenxi slowly stepped into the car on crutches. More than 70 years ago, in the Battle of Chosin Lake, he and his comrades lurked in the thick snow all night, and all 10 toes were deformed due to frostbite, and now that they are old, it is more and more inconvenient to move. A day before meeting with his comrades-in-arms, the staff of the Ministry of People's Armed Forces again asked Xue Zhenxi about his physical condition, and the veteran insisted: "The body is not a problem, the comrades-in-arms must see!" ”

At the other end, the veteran Wang Jinrong's home is festive and lively. Polishing glass, sticking window flowers, hanging lanterns... The staff and volunteers of the Ministry of People's Armed Forces carefully arranged it early in the morning to make the simple farm yard rich in flavor.

"What time is Old Xue arriving?" Wang Jinrong looked out the window from time to time. After being demobilized from the army, he and Xue Zhenxi rarely met. More than ten years ago, he happened to go to Qiaozhuang Village to catch a market, and only after being introduced by someone did he meet with this comrade-in-arms who participated in the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea together. Over the years, as he grew older, he did not want to see his old comrades-in-arms again, but he was afraid of causing trouble to his children, and he never made the trip.

As soon as Xue Zhenxi appeared in sight, Wang Jinrong immediately greeted him.

They sat next to each other, reminiscing about the years of the battle.

"I was in the 243rd Regiment of the 81st Division of the 27th Army, 3rd Battalion, 7th Company. When Xinxingli fought, it was really cold, and the shoes, socks and feet were frozen together..." During the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, Xue Zhenxi was rated as a third-class disabled soldier of the First Class. When he returned to China to recuperate, he learned of the needs of the front, and he resolutely went abroad to fight again despite his foot injury.

"I was also in the 27th Army, and the U.S. military cut off our transportation line, and one person could only eat one potato a day, freezing like an ice lump and not moving..." Wang Jinrong also participated in the Xinxingli Battle and served as a messenger in the Political Department. When the movie "Chosin Lake" was released last year, the old man who had never entered the cinema in his life deliberately asked his grandson to buy him a ticket to go to the movie. When the footage of "Ice Sculpture Lian" appeared, Wang Jinrong burst into tears. He slowly got up, raised his right hand, and saluted the screen. The audience was deeply moved by the veterans in front of them and responded with warm applause.

Two veterans said that many soldiers of Cangzhou were incorporated into the 9th Column of the East China Field Army (later reorganized into the 27th Army). Although they went to fight in Korea together, because they were not in the same battalion company, they were not familiar with each other, and they had no contact information after returning home. This time, the military sub-district and the Ministry of People's Armed Forces coordinated and contacted, and the two veterans ushered in today's reunion.

"We are all blessed people!" From "one squad and 1 machine gun" to "almost thought I couldn't go back to the motherland", from the hard years to the happy life, Xue Zhenxi and Wang Jinrong seemed to have endless words.

They were all born in September 1931, went abroad to fight in the same year, and now hand in hand into the New Year.

Zhang Zhitong, head of the Political Engineering Section of the People's Armed Forces Department of Yanshan County, said that when filming the television program "Searching for Veterans of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea" last year, the staff specially took military uniform photos for the veterans and gave them a booklet. Xue Zhenxi and Wang Jinrong cherished this special gift very much, and often took it out to look at it, and learned that there was a comrade-in-arms named Xu Fengtian in Dongguang County. "When the spring blossoms, we will arrange for more old heroes to meet." Zhang Zhitong said.

During the conversation, the volunteer dialed the video call of the elderly Xu Fengtian.

"Old war friendly! I also participated in the Battle of Xinxingli that year. Across the screen, veterans exchanged greetings. Although the hearing of the three elderly people is not very good, they all raise their hands to salute each other.

"After the New Year, we will go to Toko together!" Xue Zhenxi and Xu Fengtian agreed.

"Old hero, this is the word 'blessing' given to you, you are all blessed people!" Volunteers took out the big red "Fu" word to wish the veterans a happy New Year.

A sincere invitation, a cheerful yes. By the car window, Xue Zhenxi and Wang Jinrong met to see each other again. The staff and volunteers on the side smiled happier than the two veterans.
