Beijing, February 2 (China News Service) -- At the Beijing Winter Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, the dry blood point detection method developed by China will be officially unveiled. Olivier Negri, director general of the World Anti-Doping Agency, said on the 2nd that this technology will help improve the efficiency of doping testing.

The dried blood point technique involves taking a drop of an athlete's blood and placing it on test strip to test for the presence of a prohibited substance. This method has minimal damage to athletes, and the blood quickly dries out on the test strip, well preserving some unstable prohibited substances. In addition, the equipment of this technology is more economical than traditional methods, easy to preserve and easy to transport.

The World Anti-Doping Agency held a press conference at the main media center of the Beijing Winter Olympics on the 2nd. Olivier Negrid, director general of the World Anti-Doping Agency, said at the meeting that this new doping detection technology will be implemented at the Beijing Winter Olympics. "It will bring many benefits, such as improved detection efficiency, easier sampling, no need to draw large doses of blood from athletes, but also very convenient to transport, test strips can be stored in envelopes, the cost will be much lower, more operable, convenient for large-scale testing."

However, Olivier also said that at present, the dry blood point technology detection method will not completely replace the existing conventional means such as urine test and blood test, but it will definitely improve the operational efficiency of the entire detection system.

Wittold Banka, president of the World Anti-Doping Agency, is looking forward to the technology, believing that the dry blood point technology is an extremely valuable complement to existing detection methods, especially for the analysis of unstable substances and increasing the number of tests for athletes in remote areas.

In addition, it is reported that the China Anti-Doping Center is one of the initiators of this technology, and has been working with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), the International Inspection Agency (ITA), the U.S. Anti-Doping Center, etc. since 2019 to jointly carry out research and development work.
