1: When I was a child, I looked forward to the New Year

Text/Gong Ruzhong (USA)

When I was a child, the day I looked forward to was the New Year, because the New Year flavor was particularly strong at that time. Before the End of the Year, what made me happy was the New Year, that is, the day when the King of the Stove was sent to "say good things in heaven and keep peace in the netherworld". As usual, my mother would rush to the "Triangle Field Vegetable Market" a few miles away from home early in the morning of the twenty-third lunar month to buy good things such as live chickens, pork chops, winter shoots, and Tagu vegetables. After returning home, my mother immediately busied herself on the stove to prepare the "feast" of the stove king. At noon, my father would lead the whole family to respectfully burn incense and kowtow to the god card of the stove king, and then my mother would offer the prepared delicacies in front of the stove king, and at the same time, she would plead with the stove king to go to heaven to say more good things for our family and to bless us with peace and security in the coming year.

To tell you the truth, at that time, I was not devout enough to god and Buddha, could the King of Stove, who had the most thoughts in my heart, finish it as soon as possible? When will it be my turn to feast?

After a small year, I look forward to the arrival of Chinese New Year's Eve every day. Because Christmas Eve meals are the most sumptuous. What's more, after dinner, I could follow my father down the street to set off a cannonball. But there is one thing I can't do, and that is to keep the age, because I am a guy who sleeps upside down at night.

The best time is the early morning of The First Day of the Chinese New Year. As soon as I woke up that morning, I was sure to find delicious candy and peanuts under my pillow. In addition, there was a pressed money wrapped in red paper waiting for me. After getting up, breakfast will certainly not meet the "old three things" of "soaked rice, dried radish, and curd milk", but instead I have been looking forward to the bean paste dumplings for a long time. You know, tangyuan is such a luxurious delicacy for my little hairy child. After eating, I proudly put on my new clothes and shoes and went outside to play with my friends.

However, for adults, the New Year is both joyful and sad, because there are too many places to spend money. But no matter how difficult my home is, "Chinese New Year's Eve to the bathhouse to take a shower" is an "iron law" that does not change every year.

It may be hard for you to imagine that in my childhood, poor families in Shanghai were rarely willing to spend money to bathe in public bathhouses. During the year, my father only paid to take me to a bathhouse near my house on the Chinese New Year's Eve day of the lunar calendar (usually, we all took a bath at home, and I had a huge wooden bathtub). I once asked my father, "Why do we only go to the bathhouse to take a bath at Chinese New Year's Eve night?" The father replied, "It costs two cents for two people to take a bath." It is not easy to earn money on weekdays, especially at the end of the year, the hand is even tighter, and I am eager to 'pick up a red date and blow it as a Martian' (our old folk saying, meaning: money is particularly expensive, not a cent can be wasted). After a pause, my father continued, "But then again, Chinese New Year's Eve is different, people must wash the dirty things off their bodies." In this way, people can leave all the obscurity in the old years. And when the New Year comes, people's luck will be better. ”

After paying for tickets and entering the bathhouse, my father and I began to take a bath. As soon as I soaked in the bath, I immediately led the way to the special taste that only existed in the bathhouse: soaking in the hot pool, warming; inhaling the hot air that came from the face, refreshing; colliding shoulder to shoulder with many bathers, fresh; full of loud noise and liveliness in the ears; and the moment I finally walked out of the bathhouse after taking a bath, I really called it comfortable and relaxed.

‬过年·压岁钱

Text/Trickle (USA)

The annual Chinese New Year, in the expectation of the children, has made great strides and joyfully come to us.

It's cold here [in the United States], but when I turn on my phone, the atmosphere across the ocean comes to me. This made me live in a foreign country have an irrepressible excitement and sadness...

In the circle of friends, I saw my family, friends sent up one after another family reunion photos and selfie mobile phone videos, they surrounded a large round table, the table was placed on a very rich delicious food, singing, laughing, a moment of toast, digging out the heart of the auspicious words into the heart.

I stared at the video with good eyes, repeatedly clicked, smiling faces, glasses of wine, and words of blessing all expressed their memories of the beautiful life of 2015 that had just passed away and their expectations for a better life in 2016. Those videos of fireworks and firecrackers, the two kicks and feet take off, the fireworks are colorful, and various patterns are edited in the air, like shooting stars, straight down! This is called China's "Year!" ”

The hand that couldn't stop nodded its thumbs up. Those acquaintances and unknown friends competed for red envelopes in the group, and the red red envelopes were like the red hijab on the bride's head, sucking my eyeballs and leading people to fight, grab, busy, and enjoy it. Across the sea, I was holding a mobile phone as if I were immersed in the scene, and I could also feel the strong atmosphere of the Chinese New Year.

I can't help but think of the custom of our Chinese the New Year, what I remember most is the money that the grandparents give to the younger generations, and what the children look forward to most every year is that they can receive red red envelopes from the hands of their grandparents on this day. Inside are a few brand-new tickets (rmb), which are the old money that people call the old age of the year. From Baidu, I learned that the word "匀" is "祟", which is a kind of ghost, and "pressure" is the town, suppressing ghosts, and praying for children to grow up healthy, peaceful and happy. This is a culture formed by tradition, in addition to warding off evil spirits, it can also make people feel the simple, unmistakable love of the ancestors for their children and grandchildren. Children and adults can feel the unforgettable family affection, the full, long-lasting, and evocative sense of happiness.

This issue specially introduces Lu Zhiying children, and also specially thanks to Lu Zhiying children [roses] [roses] [prayers]! The North American Garden icon was chosen from many of her abstract paintings.

Let's start with Christmas 2021. In December, the owner of the cabin made a poem link titled Christmas, and in order to increase the festive atmosphere, Mu Zhiying's children sent three of her paintings to be published in the cabin. One of them made the owner's eyes light up, an invisible thing touched her, like a taste, let her think of Chinese red, although this child was born abroad, but her veins must be flowing with the blood of Chinese, perhaps it is precisely because of this, so that her painting in the invisible there is a kind of connection and fusion! This is innate, a perception brought about by the womb, to know that she is only 9 years old.

On January 23, 2022, the owner of the cabin pushed open the door of the cabin again, and her eyes fell on the painting again, and she decided to use the painting as the icon of the North American Garden!

China has thousands of years of glorious traditional culture, which is an indispensable part of world culture, and may Chinese traditional culture have a long history.

Thanks to Mu Zhiying children, Love!
