In 1881, Ye Jinguang's great-grandfather boarded a ship to Canada and began to venture overseas. He and thousands of Chinese laborers joined the construction of the Pacific Railroad. The West Coast community of North America has left many stories of early Chinese immigrants, and also left behind the spiritual character of Chinese love family and hard work.
In 1985, Ye Jinguang was born in the vancouver-area town of Maple Ridge, a fourth generation of Chinese immigrants. Everyone expects that the intelligent and introverted Xiaoye can make the family's reputation in the mainstream of society. In 2004, Ye Jinguang, who had been practicing hockey since childhood, was picked up by the Colorado Avalanches in the eighth round of the NHL draft.
Subsequently, he entered Boston University to study crime scene investigation. In his senior year, he won the American University League championship with the team.
After ending his campus life, Ye Jinguang became a professional player in the NHL League. In five seasons, he completed 174 games and scored 56 points, becoming the best Chinese male player in the history of professional hockey in the world.
In the 2017-18 season, Kunlun Hongxing Club, which is preparing talents for the Beijing Winter Olympics, called Ye Jinguang, Jian'an, Luo Jia and many other overseas Chinese players from the North American system into the squad, and they put on the "dragon robe" and began to compete in the KHL League. On August 22, 2017, Ye Jinguang scored a key goal for his first appearance for the team. In his first season, he scored 18 points with injuries and showed his outstanding skills.
In the second KHL season, Lao Ye, who was trusted and loved by his teammates, was elected captain of the team. In 62 regular season games, Captain Ye scored a team-high 36 points and a maximum of 21 goals. The following year, Ye Jinguang still had the same scenery, scoring 31 points, becoming the first Chinese to appear on the world-class men's professional hockey all-star stage.
On November 3, 2021, Kunlun Hongxing defeated Sochi 3-1. In the last quarter, Ye Jinguang sent an assist to let his teammate score the winning goal. It was his 100th point in the KHL. Lao Ye became the first attacker in the history of Kunlun Hongxing and the first professional league "100 king" in the history of Chinese ice hockey.
"Playing hockey as a child was an interest, and then I went to school, hoping to get a good university and get a scholarship by ice hockey." Later, I looked forward to becoming a professional player. Today, representing the Chinese national team in the Winter Olympics should be the most anticipated opportunity in my career. Captain Ye said in an interview with a Russian reporter.
Ye Jinguang feels that China's participation in the Winter Olympics is of great significance to promoting the sport of ice hockey: "Maybe one day in the future, a Chinese player will be selected to the top league, and when someone asks him why he plays ice hockey, he may answer: "In 2022, when I was five years old, I witnessed the Chinese team compete in the Winter Olympics."
