Foreign experts: Promoting harmonious coexistence between man and nature China has opened up a green future for the world

author:China Daily

China is one of the most biodiverse countries in the world. This is due not only to nature, but also to the efforts of the Chinese government and people.

The world has witnessed China's efforts

Not long ago, Chinese media shared an exciting news with the world media: a group of Asian elephants "traveling" have returned to their traditional habitat in Ning'er County, Pu'er City, Yunnan Province. Wild Asian elephants are China's first-class protected animals, and the number of wild Asian elephants in China has increased to more than 300.

At the 15th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity, the Chinese side said that some time ago, the journey of elephants in Yunnan to the north and back let us see the achievements of China's wildlife protection. China will continue to promote the construction of ecological civilization, unswervingly implement the new development concept of innovation, coordination, green, openness and sharing, and build a beautiful China.

In fact, the traditional Chinese concepts of the unity of heaven and man, the Taoist nature, and the relationship between man and nature are perfectly in line. In this country, man and nature coexist in harmony and complement each other. China's nature is unique and diverse, and China's landscape is also unique. For example, we cannot confuse Lushan In China with the Alps in Europe and the Cordillera Mountains in the Americas.

Last year, the British journal Nature published an article saying that China plays a key role in global biodiversity governance, and Chinese scientists have valuable experiences that deserve to be heard by the world. The article also points out that China has decades of experience in studying how to balance economic development and ecological loss, which brings important benefits to the world's biodiversity work.

China continues to make progress

Since 2015, China has launched major biodiversity conservation projects, steadily strengthened the monitoring of illegal activities that threaten biodiversity, and continuously monitored the progress of the implementation of the China Biodiversity Conservation Strategy and Action Plan (2011-2030).

With unremitting efforts, China has achieved fruitful results. By taking measures to expand protected areas and protect biodiversity beyond habitats, 112 species of endemic and rare and endangered wild plants in China have returned to the wild. What is even more amazing is that thanks to the great efforts to combat desertification, China's net forest growth is the first in the world, and 90% of terrestrial ecosystem types and 85% of key wildlife populations have been effectively protected. It is also worth mentioning that in 2020, nearly 90% of the 337 cities have excellent air quality, the proportion of excellent water quality sections has reached 83.4%, and the forest coverage rate has reached 23.04%.

Today, China has officially established the first batch of national parks such as Sanjiangyuan, Giant Panda, Northeast Tiger and Leopard, Hainan Tropical Rainforest, wuyishan and so on, with a protection area of 230,000 square kilometers and covering nearly 30% of the national key protected wild animal and plant species in the terrestrial region. At the same time, in line with the principle of combining in-situ protection and ex-situ protection, China has also launched the construction of national botanical gardens in Beijing, Guangzhou and other countries.

In October, the Information Office of the State Council of the People's Republic of China published a white paper entitled "Biodiversity Conservation in China," detailing China's actions and achievements in conserving biodiversity. According to the white paper, China adheres to protection in development and development in protection, proposes and implements important measures such as the construction of national park systems and the delineation of ecological protection redlines, continuously strengthens in situ and ex situ protection, strengthens biosafety management, continuously improves the quality of the ecological environment, and coordinates biodiversity conservation and green development, and biodiversity conservation has achieved remarkable results.

China has contributed to the international community

China advocates international cooperation in the field of biodiversity and urges that people's aspirations to improve their lives be taken into account and a win-win situation be achieved in the areas of environmental protection, economic development, job creation and poverty reduction, so as to satisfy the happiness and security of people of all countries.

China has led by example by announcing a RMB1.5 billion establishment of the Kunming Biodiversity Fund to support biodiversity conservation in developing countries. In addition, China will continue to promote the adjustment of industrial structure and energy structure, vigorously develop renewable energy, and accelerate the planning and construction of large-scale wind power photovoltaic base projects in desert, Gobi and desert areas, and the first phase of the project with an installed capacity of about 100 million kilowatts has been started in an orderly manner in the near future.

Led by Chinese leaders, China is charting a path to a better, greener future for the rest of the world.
