With the emergence of some new electronics, the relevant laws will also be improved, and AirTag can be said to be a typical embodiment. Some criminals have been found to use AirTags to track and steal cars, and such acts are still legal gaps.

The legislation introduced by House Member John Galloway is a direct response to all AirTag-related tracking reports. Although Apple didn't want it to be used for tracking, the "find" network did become the focus of technology abuse.

According to the Pennsylvania filing, the measure would seek to ban AirTags from being used as locators outside of their intended use.

"Since the launch of AirTag in April 2021, I've seen a lot of articles about criminals placing AirTags on victims' vehicles, wallets and even coat pockets to track their location," Galloway said. "AirTag's precision lookup tool can only be used to locate the property of its owner, such as a key, wallet or school bag, which is the original intention of the product."

The new law will apply to Pennsylvania, but if passed, other states may follow suit. Law enforcement can already contact Apple to help identify maliciously placed AirTags, an act that gives authorities some support when pursuing criminals.
