Elon Musk Brain Chip is preparing to launch human trials

Neuralink, Elon Musk's brain chip company, appears to be preparing to launch its first-ever human trial, which is now hiring a director to test it.

According to the Guardian, the entrepreneur, who owns a variety of science-based start-ups, is preparing to take Neuralink's brain chip research to the next level by hiring a task-driven clinical trial director to begin human testing. The company is working to find a way to use the technology to treat patients with brain and spinal cord injuries.

Neuralink has previously conducted neutechnology trials in pigs and monkeys, including a trial of implanting a chip into the monkey's brain. Using the device, primates found a way to interact with computers and play video games like "mind ping-pong," proving that humans might eventually be able to use the chip to control computerized devices with their minds.

"The first Neuralink product will enable paralyzed people to use smartphones faster than people with thumbs," Musk tweeted last year, reinforcing the company's goals. "Future versions will be able to shunt signals from neural links in the brain to neural links in the body's motor/sensory neuron clusters, allowing paraplegic patients to walk again."

Musk co-founded the Silicon Valley tech company in 2016 and continues to expand its team. Another recent job ad on Neuralink's website shows that the organization is currently looking for a clinical trial coordinator who will support future research as the company moves toward testing its brain-computer interface in human trials.
