In Hefei, there are three such technologies: quantum information, artificial intelligence, and controlled nuclear fusion.
Among them, controlled nuclear fusion will achieve new progress by the end of 2021 - China's "artificial sun" has achieved a record thousand seconds of plasma operation.
In January 2022, the reporter came to the northern suburbs of Hefei near Science Island, where the fusion reactor host key system comprehensive research facility is under intense construction. This is the fourth large scientific installation in Hefei.

However, hardcore technology is not practiced in a day.
As early as the 1980s, Hefei successfully introduced the first large scientific device synchrotron radiation light source because of the University of Science and Technology of China. At the beginning of this century, Hefei successively built a fully superconducting tokamak nuclear fusion experimental device and a steady-state strong magnetic field device, becoming one of the cities with the most concentrated major scientific devices in the mainland.

Approved as a comprehensive national science center in 2017, Hefei has focused on the four major areas of energy, information, life and environment, and accelerated the construction of major scientific and technological infrastructure clusters such as large scientific devices, national laboratories, and new research and development institutions.
