Many years ago, Miao Yong, now vice chairman of the Sichuan Provincial Federation of Trade Unions and a writer, was still a teenager attending middle school in his hometown in Bazhong. He happened to see in a book that Yan Yangchu was a very remarkable figure—the initiator and leader of the world's civilian education movement.

However, at that time, the ignorant teenager did not care much about this world-class master, and what he cared about was that Yan Yangchu was a Bazhong person. Miao Yong was very complacent about the emergence of such a world-class figure in his hometown, which was famous in the red base area during the revolutionary war years, and was full of reverence and curiosity.
Unexpectedly, Yan Yangchu took root in Miao Yong's heart; if it fell, it would sprout, blossom, and bear fruit. In the following decades, Miao Yong worked tirelessly while entering politics, and achieved fruitful results. And he finally achieved great results, but one of his wishes was the 450,000-word biography "Yanyang Chu" published by the Oriental Publishing House in September 2021.

Yan Yangchu was born in Bazhong in 1890 and died in the United States in 1990. In his hometown, he entered a private school, studied Confucianism, then went out to study alone, went to Chengdu, the capital of Langzhong Province, and then traveled far and wide, graduating from the famous St. Paul's College in Hong Kong (the predecessor of the University of Hong Kong) and the famous Yale University in the United States, with a doctorate. It can be said that Yan Yangchu read "the book to the top and read to the head", and "there are thousands of bells in the book, and there is Yan Ruyu in the book..."
At that time, whether domestic or international, fame and fortune were as easy as Yan Yangchu. However, Yan Yangchu was a special case, plunging headlong into the reclamation-like civilian education and rural construction, and it was a century and his life. He was like a pioneering cow until the end of his life. Along the way, it was unusually difficult and unusually brilliant.
After reading this book, I felt that Yan Yangchu was like the unsung hero Dan ke in Gorky's famous "Dan Ke": "There is a clan on the ground, and the three sides around them are endless dense forests... They understood that if they wanted to survive, they would have to get out of this forest. ”

I have read a lot of biographies like "Yanyang Chu", and I have seen a lot of works that describe "Yanyang Chu". Why is it that only Miao Yong's "Yan Yang Chu" has made such a deep impression on me? The biggest secret of the book lies in the story and story of the wonderful presentation of the book.
For a while, somehow, whether it was sensationalism or novelty, some writers believed that the "storytelling novel" had fallen behind and lagged behind, and they deliberately broke the story, or even abandoned the story, and wrote it as much as they wanted, and wrote it wherever they wanted. It is no wonder that some people say that the art of storytelling is the main force of culture, and the evolution of a culture cannot be separated from honest and powerful stories.
