Wireless instead of wired? The typical speed of Wi-Fi 7 is approaching Raiden 3

On January 24, MediaTek announced that it was based on Filogic chip products and demonstrated Wi-Fi 7, saying that Wi-Fi 7 is 2.4 times faster than the previous generation network, which will truly replace wired/Ethernet networks for the first time.

It has been reported that the minimum speed of Wi-Fi 7 will be around 30 Gbps, and ideally around 40 Gbps, which is 4.1 times the peak of Wi-Fi 6 9.6 Gbps. The transmission speed is similar to that of Thunderbolt 3 and Raiden 4. In fact, in the actual transmission of Raiden 3, the speed of external links is often limited to less than 32Gbps.

It must be pointed out that the reason why the definition of Wi-Fi 7 (IEEE 802.11be) is somewhat ambiguous is that the official version has not been signed, it is still in the draft revision stage, and it is expected to be officially released in 2024. MediaTek expects the first Wi-Fi 7 product to come out in advance to 2023, and Qualcomm, Intel, etc. are also said to be working intensively to plan Wi-Fi 7 wireless chips based on 6nm.

At the technical level, the known changes in Wi-Fi 7 will include 320MHz bandwidth, 4K QAM modulation, MLO multilink operation and other technical features.
