Former physiotherapist on Moyes Manchester United career: Even if Guardiola were in charge, the ending would be the same

According to the Manchester Evening News, former Manchester United physiotherapist Mick Rathbone talked about Moyes' Manchester United coaching career in an interview, saying that Moyes took over Manchester United at the wrong time, even if Guardiola coached Manchester United, the ending would be the same as Moyes.

Rathbone said: "I've lived with Moyes for 15 years, 7 days a week, and I'm his biggest fan. When I first qualified as a physiotherapist in '95, I went to Preston and at the time my level was the lowest. Moyes was a player, I was a physical therapist, and at that time there were only coach Gary Peters, goalkeeping coach Dave Keller, me, chef Brian. Probably only five staff members. ”

Speaking about his time at Manchester United, Rathbone said: "In the last 5 months of Ferguson's coaching, they won the league title and then David came to the team in the summer. So it's really interesting because I've worked with Moyes for 15 years and we can read each other's minds. We are very close to the goal and have had many successes. So I just watched what happened to the team and had to say I didn't see what David did wrong. I saw him doing the things that made him successful, and I didn't see him make any changes at all. ”

Asked if he thought Moyes was the right man for the Manchester United managerial position, Rathbone said: "One hundred percent of the way, I think it's fantastic. Strangely enough, he came to the training ground before taking over the team, Sir Alex Ferguson showed him around and then they ran into me. Sir Ferguson said: 'Mick, have you ever seen this man?' So it's all fun and it's beautiful. David and I have been in touch, so I'm really happy for him. I think it was a correct appointment, and like I said, David didn't do anything wrong. I was right there watching him, and I was right next to him, though a little far from him. That's how it should have been. ”

Rathbone added: "I think this is the ebb and flow that Manchester United has gone through, and whoever takes over, after more than 20 years of Ferguson's coaching, the team has to go through a period of nostalgia and unfortunately whoever takes over will face this problem. Two world-class coaches, Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho, proved this once again, and they also found it difficult to do so. So, I think it's probably the right job David did at the wrong time. ”

"But if they give him more time, he will gradually not have to spend a lot of money, he will rebuild the team piece by piece. Football is like that, isn't it? If Guardiola had gone to Manchester United, the same thing would have happened. After Ferguson, United will rise again, won't they? All the great clubs, like AC Milan 20 years ago, we think they will always be at the top level and Barcelona are going downhill now, aren't they? This kind of thing happens at every club. The same was true of the Roman Empire, the Habsburgs, and the British Empire. ”
