This 400-year-old private house in Ningbo was developed into an antique market, just down the roadside

Every city seems to have an antique market selling antiques, calligraphy and paintings, such as Panjiayuan in Beijing and Chaotian Palace in Nanjing. There is also such a place in Ningbo, the city where the author lives, that is, the Fanzhai Antique Trading Market in Ningbo. In this article, I will talk about this famous trading bazaar.

There are many ancient buildings preserved around Ningbo Moon Lake, and The Fan House, where the FanZhai Antique Trading Market is located, is one of them. When you hear this name, many people should be able to think that this is a private house. This house can be preserved to this day, and it has its own unique historical value. It is said that the former owner of the Fan Mansion was a descendant of the Northern Song Dynasty writer Fan Zhongyan. This mansion was built at the end of the Ming Dynasty and was the residence of Fan Zhongyan's later generations. Many celebrities have appeared from this house in the past dynasties, some filial piety and honesty, and some Dangzhi County, which have been recorded in the Qing Dynasty historian Quan Zuwang's "Yongshang Clan Wang". When the author visited the Fan Mansion, he saw a sign that read, "Ming Dynasty Wooden Structure Building (Former Dafu Di)", and I thought that this house also had a doctor, which was an official position in ancient times.

Fan House is a two-storey wooden building, facing north and south, and the main entrance is facing Moon Lake. The three-entry house in front of and behind the house is interconnected with the side house next to it, forming a Japanese font, like two quadrangles

That

feel. The back door of FanZhai is close to Zhongshan West Road, the main road in Ningbo City, but the original front door is obscured by a community wall, which is somewhat regrettable. The main building of this house is well preserved, and it is said to be the largest and most complete ming dynasty residential building in Ningbo.

In 1996, Fan Zhai was developed into an antique market. This Ming Dynasty building is not only filled with stalls selling antiques on the outside, but also opens shops inside the building, selling coins, calligraphy and paintings, antiques and other things. It is said that on weekends, it is very lively here, and many people look for treasure here. When I went, it was work hours, and there didn't seem to be a lot of people.

Fan Zhai is close to the downtown, within a few hundred meters is the Drum Tower Pedestrian Street, although the surrounding is very lively, but this market has a unique temperament. Some people may think that the commercial atmosphere in this house is too strong, but I don't know why, it feels very comfortable for me, for people like me who have never touched antiques, it seems like another world. Looking at the antiquities on the stalls and the tourists crouching on the side of the road bargaining with the shopkeepers, they actually felt the long-lost fireworks in this metropolis.

Admittedly, the author particularly likes the atmosphere here, but the author still has some incomprehension about the development of this historic ancient building for commercial use, shouldn't the ancient building be used for protection? Fan Zhai seems to be a cultural relics protection unit at the district and county level, is it not that the protection value is not so high? Maybe this place is also used to sell antiques as a kind of protection. This ancient house has a history of more than 400 years, and there are still some traces of ancient houses inside, which is very worth seeing.
